Had a call from Darren at AIB this morning and he's been looking at my motorhome insurance which is due in a couple of weeks. Aviva had gone up to £350 from £310 last year so we've gone with LV who cover one of the cars, for £300 including European breakdown and 90 days abroad which is normally enough for us. Yes I suppose I could have shopped around but I was at a disadvantage as I was checking the loo at the time.

We use LV for car and scooter but not motorhome. They actually told us we'd be better going with a specialist insurer.

But what is a specialist insurer? Comfort who I did use and many others still do, insure with Aviva as AIB do, they are not particularly specialist on motorhomes although I'm open to correction, as always. :)

When we spoke to them they didn't seem to WANT to cover our motorhome but when they said specialist assume they meant a company like Aviva who seem to do most MH cover. Ours is with Aviva via Motorhome Facts policy.

LV do cover motorhomes but through a subsidiary called Highway Insurance, Highway policies are only available through an authorised broker.

They didn't say they DON'T cover motorhomes but advised us to use a specialist insurer. Like I said previously they didn't seem to WANT to cover the motorhome.

Sorry, I was only trying to assist you if you wanted to use an LV company to insure your motorhome.

LV staff tell you as they did me, that they don't insure motorhomes because, as LV they don't, they will suggest you use a specialist.
However, Highway is a specialist and is an LV company, though only available through authorised brokers. I hope that clarifies things for you.
