just got back from a long trip in the van and smelt diesel...looks like we could have a leak nearside as its dripping from just behind the front wheel strut....i have tried to get under to look and looks like there might be a small black fuel filter there,,,,is this leak common on a Autotrail on 08 plate ? it,s going in to garage tomorrow as we need back ASAP.....anyone else had this problem ????

Fuel filter - Ducato - leaking - common..

YES... Just do a web search..
Apart from that cant say much else, we had it happen to us just after the van had been serviced..
That was a 2005 model.. They seem to change the filter design every few years..

Same here. Had the problem twice, both times after Fiat "Professional" allegedly serviced it:(

Have a look on fleabag and you can buy a cage that you can use to tighten up the filter top. The torque setting is amazingly high and to do it without the cage device (as Fiat "professional" seem to do as they shrugged their shoulders when I mentioned it) risks damaging the housing and then you really have a problem. Andy Techno posted a thread about this, I believe

Swop the hole filter body had a website from Andy (Tecno100)
£59:45 filter included so no need to open it.

I am rubish at finding things back on here but it was a thread of mine Ducato fuel filter.

I can recommend M&J Auto's on Butterley Street just behind Costco. They look after my cars and MH and are spot on. He is too a MH owner and understands its your pride and joy and has changed my fuel filter with no problems at all.

Dave.

I have the same problem! Only leaks when I stop at the end of a run.
My buddy Alan (Laneside) has a newer model than mine and it has an all metal filter!
When we get to Pedro's I will find a Fiat garage and see if I can change mine to the newer metal one!!!

Alternatively it may not have been tightened enough. If they didn't cause a fracture it might just need torquing up

Nice to meet you today even if only for business (y)

For those following this? we believe that the leaking housing has done about 3k since service before failure.
I checked the torque of the retaining ring and it took about another 1/8th turn before it bottomed out and the torque wrench clicked at 30nm so it will probably be ok to use again.
New unit fitted anyway, primed (this is just a few seconds with ignition on for the pump to refill it) and fired up first go.
So fingers crossed :)

due to different electrical connections, the plastic and metal filter are not interchangeable. sadly

personally i have saved the expense and headache, by buying a spare filter and housing. this can be changed at the roadside in 10 minutes. plus i have the correct tool to service the old one which will then be cleaned, new filter and put in a ziplock bag as a spare

I was told that these filters are not interchangeable, by the way, I doubt that it only leaks after the engine is switched off, mine pi**sed out while the engine was running, gradually reduced after switch off due to the fuel pressure reducing. Another Fiat cock up!!
