I'm new to it - a converted yachty
We have been sailing for many years around the eastern Med, and have now bought our first motor home.

We want to go off on our first trip to the West Coast of Ireland in the next week or so. Having looked at Google maps Campsites - many appear now to be closed for the winter.

We have a small Autocruise Vision (18 foot) so does it matter that no official camp sites are open? Can we just stop in Pub car parks provided we eat there?

Having been sailing for year is the eastern Med, we have not been into a marina in 4 years, so are quite happy putting the hook down somewhere nice. Any help and ideas grately received.

Ireland has quite a few motorhome parking areas ( known as Aires) and these are listed in books like Camperstops Europe. ( available on Amazon and others) you could also research a list of pubs and restaurants / hotels in the areas you want to visit and ask if they will allow you to visit for a meal and park overnight. We did this at a restaurant in Wales on Saturday and they said we could spend the night in their large secluded car park.

Britstops are worth looking at for this country and their latest newsletter advises that they are developing a new section to cover Eire. If you find anywhere to agree an entry in next year's book, you will get a complimentary membership and guide book.

The west coast of Ireland in October? There's a reason the campsites are mostly closed now I think and it's called The Weather.

But you certainly won't be trodden under foot!

Best of luck!

Tek nay notice of the wussies on here LOL
If you have an andriod phone or tablet try Campercontact app. It lists many places with stops on map that you can look at and see the fascilites
Knowing the chilled out irish landlords I dont think any will refuse you staying on thw car part if your having a few pints and some grub
Good luck and happy times

Welcome to the forum, enjoy your travels. Spent 3 weeks in Ireland used about 2 sites. Just find a pub somewhere you fancy and ask if you can stay in the car park as you would like to have a drink or a meal, or both, I doubt you will be refused, we weren't. Harbours are also good, but be careful walking home:D
