I went for a look at a few motorhomes yesterday and ended up putting a substantial deposit down on this. I'm really looking forward to getting it, but I've to wait about six weeks till it's ready for collection. This is my first motorhome, so I'll no doubt have plenty questions for those more knowledgable that myself.

She's got solar too which is a bonus.

The campervan is up for sale in the classifieds section and I've just put it on Autotrader.

Thank you Smudger. Appreciate it.

Have you got the 100w solar on yours? If so, does it make a big difference?

Thanks,

Arron.

Hi Arron

Yes, we have solar panel although had no real need for it so far as we have stayed on sites with electric hook up. Not sure if we will get into wild camping but we are going to start driving around from our site bases a bit more than we have done so far. I think this will be much easier when we eventually get abroad. Cheers Smudger55

Hi Smudger55 I'll mostly be on sites too, however, I do want to do a bit more "off grid" adventures in the motorhome. The fact the fridge is duel fuel is great, as it shouldn't suck the battery dry.

Thanks,

Arron.

Nice van - great layout.

Out of interest why the long wait when it's a used van???

Cheers James

Jamesh Thanks for the nice comment. I really like the layout too and it fits perfectly for my requirements.

They had a backlog of sold vehicles and mines had to join the already large queue. It had to go through the workshop for a habitation check, get a few small issues fixed, MOT and a valet.

Smudger55 Hah, I've been thinking it'll take an age to get it done. I suppose the trick is to keep on top of it and not let it get too manky.

Er, how will the fridge drain the battery? Most only go onto battery when the engine is running ie en route to wherever, once you reach there it either needs to operate on gas or EHU. Of course, when you're driving the van engine should also be charging both batteries ie van and habitation (assuming you have it all wired up right with the appropriate gadgets for enabling this.)

My top tip to you rnb100 is having moved up from a campervan, now to this much longer one.....never forget to allow for the rear overhang after the rear wheel, its amazing how far it drifts out when on full lock moving from stationary in tight spots. It caught me out on one occasion when my rear end found a rusty old metal spike hidden in a long grass verge doing a tight 3 point turn. Having said that it was sods law, as I think I, along with many others would have fallen victim in the same scenario, and could so easily again.
Getting on/off steep ramped ferries can be a problem also to be wary of.

Glad you like the new van, one positive thing that can definitely be said for a Swift Van is, they come with everything, even the little things like a smoke detector & Carbon Monoxide detector, TV Ariel, theft alarm,& tracker etc, there are not many extras you need after choosing the engine/gearbox from new
They are all extras on a continental van, even the radio in the dash!
Have Fun.

sedge Not being very experienced into the whole world of motor homing (I have only rented one for four nights before and it was a much older model) and of course I owned a PVC for just over a year. The fridge in that either ran on EHU or leisure battery when no EHU available. I think the leisure battery wasn't the best and was ran down really quickly due to the fridge being power hungry.

The Swift fridge can run on a variety of options, including gas, so no such problems there hopefully.

Hi TinaL

Thanks for the tips. I'm used to driving panel vans of various lengths and didn't see the Swift as being a problem, but driving it home and stopping for fuel, then backing into the campsite, I realised just how big she really is!! The salesman at the garage did discuss the overhang and what to watch for. He mentioned ferries as one of the examples. I'll definitely have my wits about me when manouvering and if possible, have a spare pair of eyes at the back until I get used to the size.

I was very impressed with the van when I saw it and the extras that's fitted. I'd never heard of an Alde heating system either, so I've been watching videos on YouTube to get my head around it. My first night at the campsite went very well, so long may that continue!! I'm away to work for a couple of weeks, but I've booked a three night trip when I first get back and the following weekend too.

Thanks,

Arron.

Thanks Wabs

I've only had one evening in it, as I had to go back to work, but I've got some nights booked for when I get home to really suss it out. First impressions are very good though. It's a massive upgrade from the campervan, but I did really like that. It was just a wee bit small.
