A long time
Same issue,
Fiat plate says 3600 and autotrail plate says 3500. Contacted autotrail who said the Fiat chassis is rated at 3600 hence the plate but Autotrail give the option of 3500 for driving licence issues (over 70's).
No difference to the Fiat chassis.
Autotrail sent me all the paperwork and a new uprated sticker to stick over the old one, just a paperwork exercise with DVLA to change and get the extra weight. If you want to re-classify the tax then you have to change at taxation time and have it changed to a PHGV. Tax is cheaper.

Not quite right, once you've change the weight you can apply immediately to change to the correct tax class and will receive a refund for any outstanding 'overpayment' - easiest thing to do is once you've got your new V5C is cancel the tax (ie SORN) and you'll eventually get a refund of the 'future' month's overpayment, then re-tax it online at the correct weight.
