hi all,

This is just a quick post to warn those travelling today.

We have had conditions like this since the climb up towards Millau bridge north bound. We are currently in a convoy with the snow plough and conditions are getting worse. We are some between la canourge and Clement Ferrand. Passable but not for the faint hearted.

Signs are warning that the route through clement ferrand is closed as is saint flour.
Other routes/tunnels are open but only with chains.

I will post more later (posting while travelling makes me feel sick and we darent stop )

I really hope you didn’t take that route just on my recommendation?
I haven’t used it for some years but think the current situation could be exceptional.
I hope you are safely through by the time you read this and no further problems.Thinking of you.
Brian.

Many years ago, we came that route snow and Ice with a scooter on the back, never again always came down the west coast after that in winter. :whew: :swear2:  Bob.

Seen posts on the Fun Facebook group that N. Spain near the border / Huesca / Zarragosa and down the A23 also lots of snow..
Stay safe..

I'm off snow chain hunting ready for my travels later this month.

stay safe, I didn't like to criticise other posters reference that route, we love it and have been that way in February as well, but the roadside markers, when you can see them :) show altitude, that road goes over 1100m above sea level, I think that's about as high as Snowdon

With it being such a major route I am sure it will be kept fairly clear, from our experience the French get nowhere near enough snow to know how to drive on it

Yes it’s all your fault!
Only joking, i checked the weather radar before settting off this morning and it looked like there was worse weather around Zaragoza and the western route from Spain into France. It showed a few patches of snow around Millau but didn’t look too bad.

Unfortunately by the time we reached Millau those small pockets of snow had joined together to make one huge whiteout. We hit the bad conditions just south of Millau and for over 100 miles the A75 was down to single file with bad snow. Even worse for those going the other way as there was a lorry in the ditch so they have closed it for recovery. We have just pulled over at Issoire after finally running out of it.

Fortunately neither of us is phased by driving in snow and the scenery was spectacular

We were lucky when we came back up in early January, we had some frost but no snow. I'm shivering just looking at that! :cold:

A year or so back we encountered heavy snow on the A75 at the end of May!

The motorway was open, but it was a whiteout, with the white stuff lying deep on the verges.

Unusual at that time of year I'm sure, but it happened.

Safe travels. (y)

Thanks for this post and dramatic pictures. Hope you got through safely. We’re currently heading from France into Spain. After checking the weather and road forecast today ironically we opted to avoid Clermont Ferrand and A75 and to go west via Pamplona and Zaragoza, this might not be the clear route we were hoping for. I feel an extended stay in France coming on !!

I take it you know Huddersfield
We live at the top of Newsome Hill near Castle Hill and the minute there is a snowflake on there it all grinds to a halt. UK needs lessons from the French.
