Haven't been on here for a while, the van has taken 4 months longer than we thought it would and it was torture to read all the lovely posts. Headlights are now sighted from the proverbial mountain tunnel so muchos excitement here now. We have 3 weeks off work from 31st August and currently have a plan A and B. A is eurotunnel, then down to Normandy, Brittany, coast and inland, ending up on eurotunnel again. B is ferry to Cherbourg or Caen, then work our way around, ending up on eurotunnel. Aiming to visit pretty coastal, rural towns and villages and try and get some canoeing in on the way around. Aires are our goal of choice as the van and conversion have taken a lot of money this year. I realise it's all subjective, however, any 'must not miss' place suggestions very welcome. Have a very rough sketch of places we want to see and no return booked is the plan. If we come across a lovely camp site with pool then we'd treat ourselves. Tried to get the ASCI book/card but sold out.

Vendee coast- I can recommend http://www.vendee-guide.co.uk/jard-sur-mer.htm
Jard sur mer, Aire was €6 per night, €10 for 2 nights when I stayed there 2012. 5 minutes walk into the town, very sea-sidey, some nice restaurants. Some pitches in the Aire have beach and sea views.

This gives you a guide to towns in the Vendee, there'll be similar sites for other areas. http://www.vendee-guide.co.uk/vendee-towns-villages.htm

If you've got an Aires book you can't go wrong really.

Thanx very much for that Hollyberry. Yes we have the Aires book. Always great to have a personal recommendation from someone tho. We have our bikes so that should help. Loving the idea of Aires with beach and sea views, amazing :)

Hi , make sure you get to the aires reasonably early as most coastal aires get filled up by soon after lunch , the french seem to stay sometimes for days on end , so only have a few places available, we found that especially in brittany.

I think the Aires App on Android is free, or at the very least very low cost. I have it on myLink Removed
and the PC version: http://en.airecampingcar.com/

You will know of course the popular coastal aires are likely to be very busy at this time of the year. That's been my experience.

The apps look great thanx. We thought September would be a little quieter, that's why we chose it, hadn't realised its busy that time :(
