Just a last post.

We missed out on the moules , they'd sold out when we returned from our bike ride. But ... we had a typical French meal of duck.

With salad and French potatoes!!!
I. Believe that a lot of the moules in France are from Scottish mussel growers due to there being some sort of problem with the local ones

So, after a very pleasant crossing in our recliners, watching the Olympics, we arrived in Newhaven. A bit different to arriving in Dover!

We had a very easy drive to a C&CC CS where we are pitched for the night.

Driving in Britain is traumatic for me, at least for the first day or so,because I'm the passenger, (normally, but I've got to remedy that sometime!!!)and I'm now stuck in the middle of the road with no control.

Anyway, we're set up and having a drink. G&T for me and San Miguel for Martin.

CHEERS!

Had our first bike ride together since the day of the accident. Rode about 34km. Called in at the touristy village of Veules les Roses. It seems that the free aire is no longer, at least in August. There was a height barrier where we thought the parking was! Maybe out of high season they open up the barrier.

Anyway, this is the.last night of the first part of our trip. We'll be in the UK for a few weeks before taking a ferry to Holland, Germany, France again.

Is there any interest in a continuing thread???
Yes please love the thread Judith!!
Welcome back to a sunny and warm Britain!! Hope you've brought good weather with you and it lasts!!

It was in a bag in our garage when we bought the motorhome. Its a great bit of kit. As far as we know Fiamma sell them maybe called Fiamma Sunscreen.???
I've seen those before and thought they were home made! With your hint I've found they are not.

Thanks for the updates, great read and great pictures. Glad you finally set off xxx

Well ... set off for the second time!

Thanks.

I'm trying to follow your travels but our internet has been ... poor ... at times!!!

Now in the UK for a while so I can catch up. I've seen you've left Finland and have been to Tallinn? I'll know more tomorrow.

We too have struggled with internet and only managed to get access on Saturday. We stayed in Tallinn for a few days, it was really very nice....and now done a couple of days in NE Estonia and it is fascinating, much better than expected.

Martin was up early yesterday morning and suggested we set off for the drive up to Retford. We had no problems with traffic and arrived outside my mums house at 11 am exactly!

We said hello, loaded up her washing machine and left.

We took the motorhome to a local site. It's part of a fishing lake and static caravan complex. It's hidden behind the local recycling plant and it's a little oasis.

We can cycle back to mums in just over 10 minutes so it's ideal for us.

Our van on site, sporting new mirrors, fitted this morning.

Don't know yet whether we're going to Sheffield. Have to get in touch with our old friends first.

Clumber .... at the moment we're probably going to be in Bakewell on that date, but if it goes ahead I'll follow the fun with your reports on here.

Supposed to be going to Woodall Spa for a few days but due to the weather forecast decided to go to Clumber Park for a walk and then stay near mums if the weather does turn for the worse.

We're now on a CL at an ice cream tea room/farm where we will spend the night and make a decision tomorrow which way to go.

@jumartoo that looks a nice cl.....will you share or after you've left? Clumber is looking good isn't it....I am sorry that it looks like we might miss you this time....:(

I like Woodhall Spa as well but Les isn't keen. If you or Martin are into ww2 history Lincs Aviation Museum at East Kirkby was worth a look & has a cafe/restaurant on site (nothing fancy)

Martin had a portion of ice cream with a Spanish made Pan de Calatrava that we've had in the freezer. It was made for him by his physio in Totana as a "get well" pressie.

Raquel, the physio, doesn't do cooking but she knew Martin liked it so she made it for the first time!!! Apparently its was pretty good. I don't really do desserts, prefer savoury, so haven't tried it.
We used to frequent a little, family run Bar in Rojales, who did a great Menu Del Dia. I fell in love with their 'Pan' the first time I tasted it. The 'mama' who ran the kitchen made it for me every time we went there.
I enjoyed it so much, I weighed about 3 stone more when we left Spain.
Happy days !

So, we left the ice cream place this morning heading for a C&CC holiday meet at Woodhall Spa. Decided to call in to look around Brownhills at Newark. Wondered whether that may be a bad move but we didn't see anything we liked there. Some of the new models of vans would be difficult for us to use and we are fairly small people!!!

The holiday meet is on the football club and despite the weather is well attended and it only opened at 11.00 today.

We had a walk to the town and up past the golf course and then back through the park where we watched a game? match? of Croquet. Didn't follow it too well!!!

Arrived back here just as the rain started but if didn't last long and it's calm at the moment.

The weather was better than forecast and its been dry but windy today.

We devised a walk incorporating sections of the Viking Way.

Bit worried about Martin walking under this tree in the windy conditions, with his recent track record of accidents I fully expected a branch to fall!!!

We had some walking on minor roads before connecting with another section of the VW through a golf course.

Collected some blackberries on the return route, we know we're safe with them! and had them after dinner.

Back to RETFORD tomorrow.
