Fantastic pictures, I'm completely new to this and it gives me encouragement to get abroad.

How do you know where the aires are? Do you travel along and stumble on them or is the route planned?
Any good / recommended web sites to help find aires for travel planning?

From here we drove a few more kilometres to look at the aire at Montmorillon. We decided to stay and have lunch there. One side of the aire has a high wall from an old building but the other sides are more open with the river and a grassed area.

One French registered motorhome took up a bit of space!

But the rest of us parked sensibly.

My photo won't load here for some reason :(

We use Camper Contact a Dutch app that lists most, if not all, Aires, Camperstops, Stelplatz etc. You can also buy books that do the same, but they can go out of date quicker.

You can look at Camper Contact on the web before you buy the app if you want. You can look at a map with all the areas marked and plot your route from pkace to place if you want.

My phone is working for the photos but not my tablet!!!

We had lunch, a siesta and then a walk around the town.

The first thing we have noticed about this area is that there are very few people about! It's August, and a weekend, but its very quiet.

The town is split by the river and the upper part is called Cite de l'ecrit. The whole area is about books. Printing, calligraphy etc. and books for sale. We walked up through this area to a church and took a photo across the river to the lower part.

IMG_20160806_180812313_HDR.jpg

A couple of views in the Cite area.

And one of the river from the bridge near the aire. The aire is just visible.

We had a short walk this morning. Only one photo of interest as the route was, although pleasant, much the same as yesterday.

Although my injuries have been a little restricting Its great to be able to re-start this trip. Our normal..climb,bike or run activities have been replaced with look, snap and visit type of trip...however we are making the most of whats on offer....

A vision of the future!!:)

Today we arrived at a beautiful aire. It's at a farm selling oil in a small village Availles en Chatellerault. Everything is closed today, if they open tomorrow I'll go for a look round and see if I can buy sonething in exchange for our overnight stop.

IMG_20160807_123033336.jpg

We even had entertainment.

IMG_20160807_202611600_HDR.jpg

The blue and white one just skimmed over the aire and landed in the adjacent field!!

Today we drove to a private aire just south of Ste Maure de Touraine. It's puzzling us to who the owner is, we'll find out later. It's a popular spot, in comparison to the last few nights, but it's just off the main road so good for a night halt.

I'd searched the internet for walks and found one we could join from here so we did that this morning.

We walked passed this field but didn't recognise the crop, can anyone identify it. A close up is below.

@MikeD If its Teff I must admit I've never heard of it. I certaiy looks like it. HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT!!!

I am a townie/engineer so nothing to do with countryside or farming but like to take the camera for a walk now and again.

I hate taking a photograph of something I can't identify. So just looked it up for you in one of the many books I have. (y)

Yesterday we had a "long" drive and ended up at an aire at Bretoncelles. Again, it's quiet but eventually five of the six spaces were taken.

We had a late prawn salad lunch.

For @Armytwowheels a photo.

IMG_20160809_150837839.jpg

We had a stroll round the "discovery" trail and saw a buzzard and, we think, a coypu.

This morning we were freezing in the trees so we drove 5km to an aire at la Madeleine Bouvet. There were 4 motorhomes here when we arrived parked next to the lake so we parked across from them as the occupants all appeared to still be sleeping.

And them

The aire is a big parking area and able to take many more than the 10 suggested. It's also next to a church.

View across the lake back towards the aire.

Don't know whether we're going to stay here or move on!

Lovely views at that aire Judith!

Yes, its a nice aire but we decided we were there too early to stay all day.

We had a short walk, no thanks to the local Mairie where you should be able to get the walking info from. All we got was a general tourism brochure!!!

Anyway, armed with a photo taken from the general info board we managed to walk for about an hour.

We have now moved on to Broglie. An aire in the design of a CC site!!! We will have to pay later, don't know how much now, our info says €5.

The sky is grey here but its not raining.

IMG_20160810_140548392_HDR.jpg

Still surprisingly quiet. No doubt more will arrive later. But for August!!!

Compared with the squashed aires in Brittany they seem empty compared lovely and peaceful!

We'll be heading to the coast in the next few days, no doubt our peace will be shattered then.

We have a ferry from Dieppe on Monday!!!

...Martin is so happy to be doing what he is at the moment. Only he knows just how bad he felt. If he's happy now, I'm happy also!
That's excellent news, taking time to rebuild strength & confidence - I'm sure it gives him pause for thought from time to time, what might have been :(.

img_20160808_130723336-jpg.119284

Any reason he always seems to be walking 6 yards in front of you ?
