I have booked 3 nights at this campsite in Aug. I have read insome other posts that you have to have the card you used for payment. When i booked there was no where to put card details on. Has anyone booked online and notbpaid until they got there? Worried that i have missed sonething and i will lose my booking. We have booked a tour of the battlefields and need to be camped ready for it.

We have booked online before. When you get there, park outside the barrier and then either go into the card payment room where you follow the instructions on the machine or if reception is open, go in there to pay. Enjoy :)

Presumably you received a booking confirmation with a unique reference number on it? Make sure you have that with you. If you have to use the machine it's one of the first bits of info it will need. If the office is shut, the machine dispenses an entrance fob/token to lift the barrier. They speak English in the office.

Im sure you can just pull into the side of the road before the barrier and then go into pay .

When we went there we couldn't get the machine to accept our card but we just parked outside on the road (it's a side road with plenty of room for parking) and waited for the office to open. They sorted it out straight away. We thought it was really good - completely flat pitches, easy walk into town and access to showers etc in the campsite next door.

So i take it the receipt from the machine tells you which pitch you are allocated? On my confirmation it states pitch 1A which they said may change.

We are there from the 5th August for 3 nights. We are doing a battlefields tour with a local company on the 6th. We will get picked up at the campsite and he has a max of 8 on the tour. Really looking forward to it :). It will be a nice place to stop on route back to our ferry :)

Lovely site - easy to park on the side while you sort out getting in - if my memory serves pitch 1a is in the barrier turn left and 1a is first pitch on the left.

Plenty of places to eat and sensible money in the road that leads from the town to Menin Gate - don't forget to do the Museums in the town some people spend so much time on the battle fields they forget the museums and that often gives the history to understand the battlefields better

Last night was the 30, 000th time the Last Post ceremony has been carried out at the Menen Gate. Started in 1928 and the participants have said they will continue "forever".

Sanctuary Wood Museum (Hill 62) has one of the best preserved trench systems and an interesting museum.
