We are docked in Katakola, Greece and earlier in the day we were travelling in a taxi from Olympia to the cruise port when we passed not one or two but three UK registered Autotrails. Later several where parked near the ship apparently part of a Alan Rogers tour/rally group. In September we arrived at a campsite in Belgium the same day as twelve or more UK Autotrails arrived. Seems they have a good following.

I have taken a look at Alan Roger’s website and it appears to provide guided and un-guided motorhome tours in several countries around the world. It will appeal to those who have a big budget, no imagination, no sense of adventure and need to be spoon-fed every mile of the journey. IMO.

Many years ago, well about 40😃 we started going to ready pitched tents in France with a company called Carefree camping run by the Hammerton family, looks like their son Mark has done OK 👍

We used a ready pitched tent Co. years ago on our first trip to France in Lomax kit car. All worked really well as we didn’t have room to carry a tent etc.
The French loved the Lomax as it’s based on a 2CV!

Not for me either, I love the freedom and spontaneity of motorhomes:- have a chance recommendation from someone or realise that we're closer than we thought to something on one of our lists and just go. Unbeatable.

I'm not a cruise fan either, same problem as organised tours, fixed itinerary and actually it was a way NOT to see places:- 3000 of you trying to get off the boat and go see the place you ve come to see which is either spoilt by the number of cruise ship passengers or miles away. We were in Montenegro In the Motorhome this summer and Kotor had 5 cruise ships in, definitely spoilt the experience.

We are a big fan of any types of travel and on the odd occasion agree that huge cruise ships can be overwhelming. We try and pick the smaller ships and after sixty odd cruises have so far never had a real bad one. There is a method of travel that suits everyone and the Alan Rogers tour seemed great for those who prefer a planned itinerary that’s why I never knock it. it is good there is choice, good there is understanding and good we can travel again.

A bit harsh on those people who feel safer with a guided group. They probably wouldn’t go without this security. Not for us hardy sorts, but better than not going at all.

I remember back in the 80's we went to a site in Brittany, and there were a dozen or so lomax's there on dome sort of organised trip, always wanted one, as had a couple of 2cvs previously.

This would appeal to new travellers who don't have your vast experience and the attitude that accompanies it...

That's a bit harsh, some, especially as one gets older, like the companionship and security of a 'package holiday' while others, especially the fitter and younger, prefer the adventure and freedom of going alone.
Isn't it good that we are all different! :giggle:

Harsh, there are some people who like groups and organised rallies such as those enjoyed by funsters

I would suggest that any group that likes an organised trip in the company of others, like to meet new people and enjoy a stress free pre organised tour, it’s not that they lack imagination, they are spending their money how they would like and at least they know what they like and a certainty that an organised tour can offer.

This type of organised tour is not for us we really do not like this type of tour and happy with our own company ask Chrissy Hind says she prefers being alone

As they say you pay your money and take your choice

I think the author of this comment lacks the imagination. Just beacause it may not float your boat it is for people to make their own choice of how they live there life and though you may not agree it is unfair to criticise other for choosing to do so. We all have to start somewhere.
