We go to London at the end of January for the annual ECWS parade. This year we've decided that, instead of going just Saturday to Monday, we will go down on the Wednesday until the Monday and have a proper break. We're booked in to Abbey Wood CC site for the first time.

Haven't got anything else planned for January as yet.

Hi Graham

Have never stayed at that site, but always wondered what it was like.
Would want to go for 3 or 4 nights for that one, but please let us know if you would recommend it.

Hi Sharon stayed at Abbey Wood several times, will take an RV easily, very safe and secure site, bit like fort Knox, surrounded by high fences and cameras, its set in a large wooded area and large parts aren't sat friendly (too many trees) but the EHU have TV connections. Very nice site usual CC standard, plenty of wildlife, squirells, foxes etc.

Couple of MHFer's were the wardens there recently, don't know if they are still there. Half a mile to London surburban train services, so easy access to the city. It is part of the CC's Wi-Fi trial but its expensive for short periods.

Can recommend Abbey Wood - excellent site on the Greenwich side of London, close to rail link, Security is really good - site is surrounded by security fencing and locks / barriers as it is East London / big city after all. There are limited spaces for large vehicles and satellite is a problem due to all the trees etc. but some folk seem to pick it up depending on where you park.Usual excellent CC standard and the wardens were very pleasant when we visited, not the officious little Hitler types you sometimes see. Great year round base, although is likely to be affected by the new emissions laws when they take effect.

The Crystal Palace CC site we've not tried, but is also close to main links and London city centre.

We stayed at Lee Valley last year, just for a couple of nights. Nice site but thought we would try somewhere different this year. Main thing about the trip for us is getting to St James's Square on the Sunday morning for the parade - bus/train/tube from Lee Valley and it looks easier from Abbey Wood (and Crystal Palace for that matter).

My brother works in the City (poor sod :ROFLMAO:) so all being well we shall be able to meet him for lunch on the Thursday or Friday.
