A good stretch for a dog Dave, it is said the happier they are, the longer they live. Looks as though smoochee pooch was one happy pup.
It's hard me ol' mate when you lose a pet you have loved, only consolation I can offer is, you've had 16 years of love, and loving memories too.
Commiserations Dave and Dawn

So sad to lose a good friend and one of the family. Our neighbour lost their border collie a couple of days ago and we will miss her too as we looked after her for two weeks a while back and met most days over the field on our walks.

I stood there by your bed last night, I came to have a peep,
I could see that you’d been crying, you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you so softly, as you brushed away a tear,
It’s me, I haven’t left you, I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
I was thinking of the many times, your hand reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, whilst you walked along the aisle,
I saw you pause at the pet food, and hesitate a while.

I walked with you toward the car, as you fumbled for the key,
I gently placed a paw on you, and said “It’s only me.
I was with you out the back today, stood at the washing line,
I watched you as you hung the clothes, to dry in warm sunshine.

I loved our walks around the field, sometimes on our own,
But on the days we met our friends, I always got a bone.
I nearly always loved my food, until quite near the end,
And even when I didn’t eat, you were still my dearest friend.

You look so very sad sometimes, sat in that armchair,
I try so hard to let you know, that I am standing there.
The day is nearly over now, I smile and watch you yawn,
I’ll say “goodnight, God Bless my friend, I’ll see you in the morn.”

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. Much appreciated. (y)

No doubt we will be acquiring another rescue dog soon as Mrs Deluxe does the rehoming for the local rescue centre. I keep hoping that a flat coated retriever comes in...... that would make even Jake look bright ;)

Dave, thinking of you and Dawn. I know that you gave him a wonderful life and he knew he was loved.

You know, we can never replace a much loved furry friend, but I am certain a certain special lady will soon be offering to foster a dog in need, even if just as company for Jake the idiot

Its alway sad to lose a pet, there more than an animal there family BUT after we lost our last 2 Yorkies we said never again.. its been tough being without mans/womans best friends and weve been tempted too many times to recind our decision but as time has gone by we are gradually finding we are not tied down as much as we were, and hey, at our age we find the freedom refreshing after being tied down in earlier life withy our own children
