Hi all
Not sure if this is the correct place for this thread 🤷‍♀️, but hopefully it is
Has anyone imported an LHD motorhome since the new regulations came into place, and taken vehicle for IVA inspection? What was involved please? Was there a long delay to get inspected? How long to then get registration completed?
Our useless dealer has let us down again and now tells us we need to organise this or pay an extra 3000€
Thanks for any reports
Sally

It would help if you gave more information.
Which countries are involved Spain/Portugal
Where are you exporting/importing it from , to.
Is the dealer you mention the firm you are purchasing from?

A bit more info needed.
If using a dealer its down to them.
You only need an IVA inspection if you you don't have a Certificate of Conformity, EU C of C are still being accepted at the moment.

Apart from having to pay VAT on second hand vehicles nothing else has changed yet.

Ok…so it’s a brand new vehicle being imported from Germany. It is LHD. The sale is going through the UK dealer although the handover is being carried out in Germany.

I thought normal procedure with this is dealer register it in the UK and sends the plates to Germany ready for hand over and collection?
Seems easy money for the dealer otherwise with just a few emails🙁🙁

Apparently this isn’t possible anymore. The NOVA paperwork cannot be entered until the vehicle is physically in the uk. Will establish tomorrow whether a basic IVA check is also required…this would be a 90min inspection at one of the few IVA stations. Then its 10 days before vehicle is approved…and then I think it can be registered. So even more delay 😞

Hi, we’ve literally just imported ours from Germany and are in the final stage (DVLA) of registration. There are basically 3 steps -
1. Notify HMRC by email within 14 days of arrival including invoice to show amount paid, they will calculate VAT due, and provide a certificate saying it’s paid thereafter.
2. GB Conversion IVA. As long as you have the European CoC then you don’t need an IVA test (regardless of the weight of the vehicle). Complete the form and send supporting information (Original CoC, letter confirming vehicle has been adapted for UK (speedo, lights, etc) and £100 payment (we paid on gov.uk website all very straight forward) and emailed the whole thing to the VCA. They then retained the European CoC and sent the new GB Conversion IVA in the post. To this stage, approx 2/3 wks.
3. Register with DVLA, send completed V55/4 along with supporting info (photocopy of driving licence, payment (yrs tax plus new registration fee), proof of vehicle approval, etc), we also included a pre-paid special delivery self addressed envelope for return.
Hope this helps but feel free to message if you have any other questions.

Thanks Rob that’s really helpful info. Are you LHD? Can’t establish whether that means you need a basic IVA

Hi, yes we are LHD and it is pretty much the same as it used to be.

Thank you. Could you do the IVA form before the vehicle is in the uk? Dealer is sorting the VAT side

Fair play to the dealer for sorting the VAT. We had to pay German and UK VAT and then claim the German VAT back.
We took ours to our local garage for them to verify the speedo had been changed and the lights are flat beam or left dipping etc.
I’m not sure you would be able to get this verification with the vehicle not being in the UK.
You also need the European CoC which I’m guessing you won’t have until you get the van.

Hi Rob
sorry, one more question…who did you get to insure you in both Germany and in UK? We use NFU and unfortunately they will not cover us until we have a UK registration

We always use NFU and our last Carthago in 2019 was insured on the vin from when we picked it up in Mülheim.

NFU will no longer insure on the vin until you land in Blighty.
We came back from Hamburg on the 3rd party insurance that comes with the export plates as we couldn’t find anyone to insure us.

That’s really odd…I spoke to NFU this morning and they will not insure to drive on VIN even in uk…they will only do it when you have full registration. Which NFU do you use?
