A member mentioned that " As with all the Motor Trade expect to be bent over" ( or words to the effect).
As a Ex Garage owner I find that offensive, not all Garage Owners, Motorhome Dealers, and associated Companies should not be "tarred with the same brush" , most give a good service.
As I have said before on here, if you have a problem with your vehicle away from home you will be pleased to have a Service company to help you.

My local independent has trustworthily looked after my cars for 30 years. Main man has retired 2 years ago. The business taken over by his SIL and is just as good (though not quite as cheap as it was)

Tony there are good and bad in all commercial operations.

including accurate and inaccurate posts on forums.. let it go; lifes too
Um !
One does not for example hear the same comments in general about Campsites and other businesses

Van's laid up ATM waiting for airbag ECU to be sorted since mid' June but good garage and trusted(y)

Lots of good independant garages about.
There’s an old expression : Don’t let the buggers wear you down.
There are even such things as good estate agents, good double glazing salesman, good lawyers, good financial advisers, and even good MP’s….although that might be stretching the point a little too far!:ROFLMAO:

I agree with Tony here, but I also would bet that he, and other good garages, double glazing firms etc. etc. have/ have had long standing customers that believe that you give a good honest service and value for money and come back time and again. I would also think that most savvy people would go by recommendation over big glossy ads. I personally can say that I have NO sign over my workshop doors, No advertising in the relevant magazines, no online presence, no landline. I'm busy. Busy to be unable to take on new work (let alone new customers) until about May/ August
Word of mouth, quality work.

'Trust me, I'm an antiques dealer' was a favourite slogan I'd often tell my mates.

Always raised a snigger but I've still got them same mates.

All the best
Antique

Having been in the trade many years ago I have always managed to find excellent independent garages since. Unfortunately my experience with main dealers has almost without exception been well below what independents seem to excel at ie customer service, honestly and value for money

Many garages won't touch big jobs anymore because of Facebook etc , customers don't like big bills so if the hours mount up at £50-60 they're quick to condemn on social media

Unhappy people are very vocal while satisfied customers keep quiet , I was horrified to read some of the reviews of the garage I use so left my own experience to hopefully even things out a bit .

Social media isn't all good , a handful.of negative reviews out of thousands of jobs can ruin a business and generally it's because the customer didn't want to pay the 10 hours it took to fix something.

You are very lucky if you ever came across a good estate agent in your life, it’s not many who will ever have that experience…….

It's always the same those ***** have an easy life. They overcharge it's a dead easy way to make money. If you ask them why don't they do that then and their kids ( because if it is a dead easy way to make money they must be a bit thick if they haven't done it ) you get a sort of blank look.

You get about 1 possibly 2 good garages out of 10 . So its a minority not a majority. 😉

Well if it’s that easy and a big rip off all you have to do is DO IT YOUR SELF oh hold on a moment! You can’t.
As your time has been used for more important things such as - working in (whatever) for much more than a skilled mechanic!
Please don’t take this the wrong way but my hands use spanner’s like an office worker uses a pen 🙂

Your only as good as your last review is what i say. One negative one seems to override all the good ones. On this basis my customer service has to be top drawer including returning at no cost if the customer has an issue. I am a sole trader roofing contractor.

And if a Office worker knows have much a square metre his Office space costs, which includes building, salary, computers , consumables, etc. Paying £60 / £100 + an hour to a garage just might sound sound cheap!!

It's the same with all the threads about vets and dentists. Why don't those complaining recommend it as a career path for their kids?

I got ripped off b a cowboy when I first bought the van got the money back when he slipped up and told me he was waiting for CCC to arrive to get recertified, he gave me the money back to get rid of me , went somewhere else they fixed he botch job for next to nothing
so good and bad both certified by the same club. been using the same female mechanic for the car for years and the bill is usually with £5.00 of my estimation (which I never tell her) the van for its MOT goes else where as it does not fit in her garage both local , both independent , both trusted

It’s swings and roundabouts. I get lots of praise on here and lots of criticism. Unfortunately if we sell 1000 motorhomes in a year and 50 people complain you would be pretty happy with that. The problem being the 50 will openly complain and the 950 are too busy enjoying their vans, not writing positive reviews.
Everyone hates a dealer until they need help!

As you say 1,000 vans but if they are prepared correctly before selling no comebacks as you know🙂

In this area there are def FAR more bad garages than good, and any trade will always be judged on the worst not the best

If you want your "pants pulled down" your local restaurant will oblige with 250ml glasses of wine (that you can get a bottle of in any supermarket for £6) at £12 including their new favourite post COVID addition which is 12.5% service charge.

I suspect you have never worked with the public! We had our own business for years the fact of human life is that no matter how prepared and trained anyone is sooner or later they make mistakes. When that happens it is an opportunity to put things right. But there are some members of the public who are professional complainers

I've never had a good job done by a garage so learnt to DIY.
New brake line failed after 4 months, luckily I spotted it before driving.
Split CV boot replaced and fell off on the way home.
Engine thrust washers replaced when I wanted a gearbox noise looking at (noise not cured).
3 months to replace a head gasket.
Insisting I need a cambelt replacing on my cam chained Alfa engine.
The list goes on..
