Thinking of going to Lake Garda next September any advice of good campsites in the area thanks

Fabulous area, I've been several times recently but never (yet) in the van. Lots have so you should get plenty of suggestions. Otherwise you could try garda campsites in the search bar?

I have been looking at Garda also as not been there since the late 1970s.
But the most direct route is via Austria 🇦🇹 , and the van is over 3500 kgs so reluctant to commit to a go box.

We went to Lake garda this year and stayed at camping butterfly. Nice smaller site within strolling of Peschiera del Garda, which is a pretty place.
We are over 3500kg and go via basil and down the excellent Swiss roads. 32.50 francs for 10 days on the Swiss roads and you have a year to use them. Bargain imo...

Hi yes we love it there the sites look good

We had a nice lakefront pitch at Camping San Francesco near Desenzano, quite a big site and busy in peak summer so should be nice out of season. Good facilities pool, restaurants etc.

Yes that’s the one we have been looking at think we will give it a try

Expensive beer in restaurants I warn you.

We stayed at one within waking distance of Peschieria. Sorry can't remember the name but the town is lovely and you can get boats around the lake. September should be good. I think it must be horrible in the school holidays.
We were there early July and it was getting very busy.

Go through Switzerland and drop down to Lake Maggiore. It's lovely there too and an easy few of hours on the motorway to southern Garda

Following with interest as heading that way next year as well

We went in school holidays c2017. I can’t remember the dates but it was probably late July/ early August. The first week was fine but the second was apparently the start of the Italian holidays and it was bloody horrendous. All the ferries around the lake were full and you couldn’t get into any restaurants.

Never again. September would be great though

We did Garda in September. The campsites were really busy.

We also stayed at San Francesco. The restaurant was good, the pitches were tight, and the flies were plentiful!

Camping Fontanelle was also nice, with a lakeside walk with bars and cafes to stop at.

We tried to get into Camping Tonini and sites farther north, but everywhere was chock full - didn’t help that we have a large van too!

We went to Lake Garda end of 2nd of September 2022 and everywhere we tried was full and the place we got into the vans were packed in like sardines. Our lesson was that if you are going in September make sure you book your pitches well in advance

Lido Cappucini is close to Perschiera and a lovely site with direct access to the lake path, small and friendly.
The one next door, Bella Italia I think it's called is colossal, I'd guess 600+ pitches and is like a prison camp with security guards on the gates. I don't know what goes on in there but it didn't appeal to me.

We breathed a sigh of relief when we left Italy and spent a blissful last week of our holidays in our favourite spot, Grimaud!

Great place for bikes and boards👍🏻

July last year.

We stayed in Toscolano Moderno, few sites there although some weren’t great.

Lovely area but don’t swim in the lake around Desenzano after a thunderstorm!

We were in Garda this September, struggled to get booked, but it was the Bardolino wine festival, We stayed at Camping Serenella, pitches were fine, nice walk to Garda and Bardolino, wine festival was good too. we had come via Maggiore and lake Isio, enjoyed both we looked at camping Butterfly as we had tried to get in there but were glad we were where we were. Came back via Switzerland went via France and Frejus tunnel, both in 3.5 vans. We used bus and boat travel, day after the wine festival finished the no of boats greatly reduced. Have a lovely time whatever you decide.
Serenella had a good bierkeller, good mixture of nationalities, nice lake side bars too.

We stayed in a hotel there this year and had a look at the campsites between Bardolino and Garda on the lake front. We loved the area and thought we would like to camp between these two places - both lovely, lively and good swimming in the lake. You can also get ferries from either Garda or Bardolino to other places along the lake. Camping Serenella looked nice. Tbh everywhere we visited was beautiful but I would definitely book for September as June was very busy so likely to be similar.

My wife and I did a three centre trip back at the end of May. Orta was quiet. Maggiore was busier but not too crowded and Milan was crazy.

Did Lake Como on the way back up Italy last month as I've been to Garda a few times before. Campsites were shut but there were a couple of cheap motorhome parks right on the lake. Lovely area
