Not sure I agree with any of those the 2 worst vehicles I've owned were both obscenely expensive Mercs.

So pleased that my camper sits on a Japanese base.

I spent most of my working life in an assortment of European American and Japanese car plants - different mindsets - now I would only ever consider Japanese.

Think when it comes to breaking down it's like the UN - all countries equal. It's not the country they were made in so much as the day they were made. Friday afternoon vehicles used to be built by happy but utterly ~issed workers. Of course you can take a robot to a pub but you can't make him drink! I suppose on the continent replace pub and beer with bar and vino.

Our FIAT is now 13 years old. 67,000 miles. We've done the cam belts, lots of oil, and the only other spend is front brakes. 65,000 and we needed new front disks, they take a hell of a hammering esp in Switzerland.

Still drives like a new car and surprisingly little rust underneath.

Oops, sorry, a new starter battery at 8 years. Tyres of course.

    Exhaust might need replacing sometime.
