I also try and inspire bikers, I've just been telling them about Riccioni on the east coast. It's the sun+sand destination for the Bologna people, right at the end of the motorway. First went in 04 and then 12, it's a lovely place if you want sun, sand, cafes, style. Plenty of campsites and good for push bikes.

The Misano race track is also within pushbike distance for those who like those places.

Well that was good enough for me. Bit of UK style, a UK reg Maserati.

We've never been that far south so all new to me. Much less colour on the buildings that northern Italy, that will come later.

Passion for life is what comes out of that program.

You must have watched Two Fat Italians, well this is the thin version. Except only one is a chef and the other an arty type.

The poverty of the 1930s was a bit of an eye opener.

We also love Riccione, six visits to the Hotel Dory in the last fifteen years http://www.hoteldory.it/en/riccione-bike-hotel.htm including my 50th. A great place to visit.

Nice position, right where the action is, lovely town centre. What a contrast to Benidorm, Beni, rough and ready, Riccioni all class and style. Love them both. I don't mind a bit of rough.

A Chinese restaurant to die for just across the railway, you must have found that.

Perfect for push bikes Catholica/Misano one way, Rimini the other way.

I rode up to the racetrack one Sunday, it was a bike track day, you should have seen the bikes these Italians amateurs were having fun on. Serious tackle.

I'm badly in need of an Italian fix. Not long now.

I would have thought as a Hilldweller you would have been more interested in the rides up to San Marino and Urbino!

We did San Marino on the motorbike years ago, what a treat that was. 11 years ago in fact.

Urbino, elected not to go last time when the FUNsters we were with went, it sounded a bit to arty, but when they returned it looks like we missed a good trip. Could have looked up Rossi too.

There is great cafe / bar in Tavullia, where they can talk forever on Rossi, my Italian is limited but we talked in the universal language of beer and motorbikes.

Another vote for Riccione, we have stayed there a number of times, including the Hotel Dory, and cycled the area intensively.

Cycled quite a bit of Italy and we love the people, food and countryside.

We have never found a place that we did not enjoy.

Of to visit Venice via Austria spring 2016,!

The town of Umbria is a fantastic place, the Princes Palace is huge and dominates the town.

It's a University town and the piazia's are great at lunchtimes.

It's on the top of a huge hill, Yvonne and I up cycled from Riccione and back in a day, took about 2 hours of climbing up from the plain but just 30mins to get down!

Strongly recommend that you visit!

Yes folks we go every year to this region in September, stay on the coast in the National Park between Pesaro and Gabicce Mare (think that's the correct spelling) This area is frequented by the Italians themselves, most foreign visitors usually go to the lakes or the West Coast. We are fortunate that we have friends in the local motorcycle club in Pesaro and they provide a full 7 days of escorted tours in the Marche and Umbria regions travelling to many of the places mentioned including those caves, and some that have not such has the Furlo Gorge. This is a heavenly area and I can't wait see the wonders of the Dolomites, in the nest episode. Why is Italy not visited by more Funsters is it perceived to be too expensive etc, roll on September.

Last one did not disappoint.

We stayed in Chioggia, campsite on edge of town. A great place to cycle round. Some derelict industry and a lot of Venice like waterways.

Anyone fancy a bit of Italy, get on BBC iPLayer

We are so pleased that we are going to Venice next year, thought we would see Venice then go to Austria for a week or two.

Now we have decided to go to Venice then spend the tine in the Vento and up to the Dolomites.

Anyone visited the Dolomites and what is the driving like there?

for venice: http://www.campingserenissima.com/en

camping can be expensive compared to France (not the above) with its municipals, fuel expensive, although only slightly more then here, but plenty of 30€ sites around, except for the lakes which are an Italian equivalent of Beverly hills..so what do you expect!lol Eating out far more reasonable and wonderful, even around the lakes. Plus its ultra friendly and you don't feel like you're being tucked up everywhere you go!. We go every year :)
