Hello lovely people. We are heading off to Italy in May and although we have all the apps for camping sites and aires ( SFS, Camper contact, P4TN etc) we wondered if those of you who know Italy have any other info on books, Apps or sites that show more stops and possibly the hidden places that the Italians know about!
We have no agenda , just following where the sun is and have approx 5 weeks so need some more available stops, especially in the hills and in beautiful villages /towns.
Thanks.

I've not yet used this but might be interesting

We are going to Italy for 7 weeks from the being of June and I have put together a Google map of places that look worth a visit along with parking and night stops close by each place.
I'm happy to PM you a link to the map if it is of interest to you.

fantastic , thank you two on tour , that would be much appreciated.

We've been twice to Italy and found enough places just using CamperContact. But having the ACSI card was helpful too. Some of the sostas, especially on the coast, were a bit grim and weren't much cheaper than ACSI sites. Be prepared for 3A EHU and coin operated showers in some places!

We’re off in 3 weeks, starting in the Lakes for up to 7 weeks. Couldn’t find much when looking other than Google & SforS. Doesn’t seem as slick as our French chums.

Exactly why I was trying to find any other info on sites. It may be that what is available is all that is needed, we shall see. We always enjoy ourselves where ever we end up !

We always travel with an ASCI card, but also like to find the ' safe in the middle of nowhere' stops which I am sure are around and our Italian hosts will have them.

La Riva Camping at the top of Lake Como is one of our all time favourites.
Have a great trip.

Any chance of PM’ing it to me too 😥….Italy is a bit more difficult for places….also their Camping Sites can be horrendously expensive…and my present girlfriend had her bikini nicked off the washing line so need to persuade her to go again ☹️

Hugoman you have a PM

We went on Sept/Oct. We didn't book anything. Used ACSI, Park 4 night, Search for sites, Google. Parked in a mixture of Official Sostas, Campsites and unofficial off Grid locations. Plenty of availability although I guess October is less bust than May.

October ….you can probably park for the night in the Vatican then 😊

We did a tour of Italy last autumn. Usually we just do the lakes and as far south as Rome but this year we went right down to the bottom on both sides and found some amazing places. We never book a site and mainly used sites and a few sostas or the equivalent of aires if anyone is going to these areas let me know and i'll give you more detail.

Can I also be very cheeky and jump on the bandwagon and browse your itinerary as we’re going for 8wks. In September, will you be doing a travel blog on here whilst your away

Just watching the BBC weather and noticed a lot of snow over the Alps. Are we likely to encounter any in a couple of weeks On the roads? Planning to travel via Basel, Lucerne, Gothard tunnel to Maggiore.

I read on a different thread earlier that the St Gotthard pass is still closed. There's been lots of snow in the Alps recently.

In Italy at the moment and we signed up to Agricamper Italia, I think about €30 for 12 months membership.

We used our first one a couple of days ago and it was beautiful. A similar scheme to France Passion.

Parrot Face could you share the site you stayed at in Matera?
For the op if you are thinking CinqueTerra on your journey it is very busy. Not really heard of the place before but the rest of the world certainly has. Couldn't get on the camp we wanted fully booked for weeks.

The parking and places to spend the night around Matera look to be fairly sparse, so we are planning to stay at a site (Agriturismo Masseria del Pantaleone) just below Matera.
It's currently €22 a night and has a free shuttle bus into Matera twice a day.

Tunnel goes under the mountain pass.
Prepare yourself for a very slow crawl up to the tunnel all controlled by traffic lights.

Area Camper Masseria Radogna. It wouldn't be for everyone but it is quirky and basic. You can spread out in the fields , has ehu and basic toilets. Regular mini bus to city, friendly warden, some people walk through the gorge to the city.
