Hi my husband and I have been motor homing for three years in Britain. We are setting off for the Italian lakes next week and I haven't booked any sites. Starting to panic now that I should have? We hired in Canada and booked everything but then had to drive for too long due to being late landing and road blocks. Are we going to have trouble finding sites? Hope someone can help

You should be fine in June and remember there are plenty of smaller lakes worth visiting. :)

Okay thanks

As DBK says I think you'll be fine in June aand if you can find a site you'll always have the Italian equivalent of the Aire, I can't for the life of me remember what they're called.

. We are setting off for the Italian lakes

Don't overlook Florence, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sorrento.

Rome I'm not so sure about, the forum and colleseum is to be seen but the rest I can live without.

Italian trains are great so to have a day in Venice from a base in Peshciera del Garda is quite doable. Same using Sorrento as a base and visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Stayed for a couple of nights at lake Maggiore , plenty of space on campsite the camping nearer lake was busier but still had spaces. This was beginning of June

Totally agree Lake Iseo is beautiful with a cheap ferry and train system that goes all around the lake. My favourite is Lake Caldonazzo. east of Trento.

Nooooooooo don't do it!!!!!! If you go to Italy you'll be spoilt for anywhere else, then you'll just have to keep going back again and again :D

You should be fine in June, especially if you stay away from the more popular spots. Use sostas to get near places you want to visit e.g. Pisa, Florence. As for Rome there's a nice campsite just a short train ride from the centre, Camping Village Flaminio.

There are so many lake campsites that finding one with space should be no problem. We pre-booked lakeside pitch near Bardolino on Lake Garda last June, but on arrival were given the choice of six other pitches that were free and that was just the six they showed us. There were loads of others that never had any residency while we were there.

When we were there June 2 years ago the site we dropped onto was very quiet until the weekend and then it got stupid busy. On Monday it went back to quiet again.
