Have just checked the European fuel prices and had a shock.
It seems we no longer have the highest diesel and petrol prices in Europe.
The Italian diesel is now 1.70 Emus making it more expensive than the UK.
That's Italy crossed off me list of places to visit.

You've a huge tank, fill up in France/Switzerland/Austria and you'll see the best of northern Italy on it.

The point am making is that we have always excepted that we pay the highest price in Europe for our fuel. Now it seems the tables are slowly turning. In my opinion its not before time. Just maybe all these cut throat foreign trucks that have been coming to the UK on cheap price fuel will now have to put something back into our economy. We have to pay road tolls/go boxes etc when abroad whilst trying to compete with there cheaper road tax and fuel. This will be seen as a step in the right direction for the UK haulage industry.

Wrong as they all fill up in Luxembourg, before coming across channel and have
sufficient capacity in their fuel tanks to go to north of Scotland and still return to
Luxembourg to refuel en route home. They dont and wont fill up here or in Italy.
Fuel must be one of Luxembourgs biggest exports as all European Transport companies
do the same thing, including our own.

Speaking from experience as ran my own international transport company for over 20 years.

regards
Steve

I was going off Drive Alive website and they are quoting Italy at 1.71 Euros and the UK at 1.69 Euros. Maybe something to do with who you change your money with, but we are not far off either way.

I expect the EU price is averaged over the whole country ie France is €1.43 but
INTERMARCHE BAPAUME is selling at €1.31

Diesel around here is £1.39 to £1.42 (1.65 Emus)

I buy Bio Veggy blend near me at £1.00 ::bigsmile:

That's a good price for bio Charlie. Am struggling with getting it at a favourable price now that everybody and his dog are using it, so experimenting with black diesel. Favourable results so far but not enough miles on the clock to make a decision on using it in the camper.

what is black diesel Dave ?

Hi Jim, Its a mixture of fossil diesel and filtered used engine oil. There is a lot of info on the net regarding its use, like most things on there, some good, some bad.Its been used successfully by the military for some years and am lead to believe that all used motor oil is being recycled by the military now. The reasoning behind this is that the price of used veg oil has increased dramatically in recent months due to some of the big multi fast food stores using there own used cooking oil to make there own bio. Mc Ds being one of them. There was a lot of alarmist comments when bio started becoming available, but as time has gone by its become acceptable.

When I drove up through Italy in November I paid €1.51 per litre, it was the most expensive I saw in europe this year and it sounds as if it has gone up again.

To save on their prices I filled up in Malta, once in Italy at Cassino and then in France.::bigsmile:

That site seems a bit over inflated?????

Maybe it's the Motorway Services that over charge that put this price up. £1.44 for diesel, I've not seen prices this high apart from Motorway services (oh and Gloucester!?). Belgium is also showing 1.473 Euros. The Motorway services had these prices, but all the petrol stations in Brugge this weekend were around 1.37 Euros.

The prices are in Euros not £. So at the present exchange rate diesel would be around 1.44 Euros in the UK.

I was quoting the £ for the UK not Euros.

€1.725 is the quoted figure for Diesel in the UK, which is £1.44. That's way more than anyone pays unless you fill up at a Motorway services.

I pulled into a filling station yesterday on the A303 just north of Honiton, they did'nt have any diesel but unleaded was £1.49.9 litre needless to say I did'nt buy any.
