I have a Pioneer AVH-X3800DAB unit in a Fiat Ducato based A class. This unit seems to have a high current drain when on standby, and I'd like to be able to physically isolate it from the battery with a switch. There are several spare switches on the Fiat dash, next to the Hazard lights switch. Assuming I can get to these, har, har, can anyone help with what cables carry the power supply? There is a massive multi-cable loom that goes into the back of the unit. The whole thing seems to be called the "Power" supply. Quite unhelpful really. I've attached a screenshot of the installation manual. Would I be right in thinking that item 4, labelled "Connect to the constant 12V supply terminal" would be the one to route via the spare switch. It doesn't help that there are two Yellows......

You will probably have 2 + 12 volts to the radio, one permanent 12v and one switching on with ignition, test with volt meter then switch off with a switch.

Yup. The ignition controlled supply seems to be no.6 (red) So, I need to route the Yellow via my new switch. It's the permanent one I want to be able to control. Thanks for that clarification.

Just make sure if you only do that that nothing strange happens if you still have the ignition on and no permanent 12v

Did the same on our head unit however the "permanent live" is an additional cable fed from the leisure battery rather than the vehicle battery.
On the ISO 10487 plug, from memory, the switched 12v is pin A7 and the permanent 12v is pin A4.

I'm pretty much guaranteed to have strange things happening when I mess with electrics....... Just to clarify, basically what I want is to be able to isolate the unit at night to avoid current drain when not on hookup. The ignition will be off anyway obviously.

Are you saying things might not work when the ignition is switched on if I have isolated the permanent supply? I could get round that by just switching manually when I start up?

Yeah, that may well be the case. Either way, I want to stop the drain.

I can only go off the colours as described in my screenshot. Are the pins labelled, if I pull out the connector?

You do realise that you will lose all your settings when you do this just a thought .

Not that bothered really. Don't they have some sort of battery powered ROM? Primitive.

Yes as long as you remember to do that, probably be fine I was just saying.

The head unit wiring loom is usually plugged into the vehicle wiring loom installed by the manufacturer and uses (normally) an ISO10487 socket \ plug.
This might give a steer.

Thinking about it just put the fixed 12v to a switch and put that to both ignition and fixed 12v at the radio.

No he won',he only needs to switch the main feed one, the memory one only draws a few milliamps & can be left connected.
So do you agree I just need to switch lead no. 4 as per my screenshot?

Which one is the memory one?

Thought the yellow 12v was the constant feed so if you switch this you will lose the memory as the unit won't receive any power.

Can’t you fit a battery master then your leisure batteries will keep your hab battery topped up
