The school will know if he's done it before - if it's primary we're talking about his class teacher will spend all of the school day with him and there may be some past history that they're not exactly going to shout about from the roof tops. At least start with them and see how far it goes. Plod's not going to be interested in a 10 year old but the school has certain responsibilities on safeguarding and are obliged to act in some way.

Thanks. That's my take on it too.

I don't think I will but will leave it to the school.

I just want them to be aware really.
NO! The previous post was correct . . . It's the Police you should be informing.
The little shit has learnt this sort of attitude from somewhere, if not by going on the internet then from home. Do something positive now, don't just leave it to the school

A very long-winded and controversial analysis of IS has been circulating online, the upshot of which is that (unlike an ideology which can live on in peoples' minds) a Caliphate needs territory to survive, so the obvious solution is to wade in and take the territory off them. Not that any leader in the West is going to consider that.

It's not a question of doing something positive or not.

It's about doing something.

And I have skinned a few cats

Family and friends of accused.

Not worried about police.

pretty much sums up the sort of people your dealing with, any decent parent would be ashamed there child had made those remarks and deal with it accordingly
Wonder what would have happened if your child had made some kind of remark about the Asian child

i think your approach is sensible @Chris letting the school deal with it first but with the knowledge that if they are unable to deal effectively with this and this scrote comes up with anything remotely similar that you expect the school to take the necessary steps in reporting extreme behavior.

One of the dangers is in getting newspapers involved, there is so much nonsense being printed and banded about, to say nothing of your family and the school becoming a celebrity cause. So perhaps the Police may be more of a problem as journalists seem to follow their activities.

The last people I would call is the press.

God forbid.

I think you are right Chris, going the the police will achieve little. It is up to the school to escalate it if they feel fit but I would want to know what action they are taking to make sure that it is not repeated.

Cripey Cripes!

The French were warned not to go to Morocco and they invaded the Algarve...

Don't tell me we are now going to have an invasion of Brits from Benidorm too.

Just chopped down some trees here at QMJ... I think I'll build a height barrier!

I will be in to see the Head tomorrow morning first thing. My daughter leaves for a 2 day residential stay tomorrow with this little turd going too.

I would have tracked the head down tonight !

I am off to the Costa Brava in August too.

I might get on the news taking out the terrorist with a beer glass before he commits an atrocity.

Only to find out he was selling coconuts.
Better safe than sorry !:D

Interestingly the FO has has Spain and France higher up the alert scale than Morocco. Mind you the Star, that is serious, chief pornagrapher and owner Desmond funder of UKIP might have an agenda though. :)

I don't know them or the boy, but he must get this nonsense from somewhere.

it is now a legal requirement for the school to report that once you make them aware as it suggests the child is at risk from extremists attempting to radicalise them.. we only deal with pre-schoolers and I was amazed the communication came to us as I expected it would only be relevant in secondary schools.. how wrong I was....

The "poll" in the link given in the OP is a bit disturbing. The answer yes to the question would you go to Spain suggests you would go because there is nothing to worry about. This isn't true. I would go back to Spain but I certainly wouldn't think there was nothing to worry about.

The 2004 Madrid train bombings killed 191 and injured 1800 and was al Qaeda inspired so Spain is no stranger to terrorism.

But they, the terrorists, could and do strike anywhere. Paris or London aren't safe and neither is Spain.

The article is useful in that it might help folk realise no where is 100% safe, though the Oval Office in The White House probably comes fairly close but for the rest of us I can only suggest being sensible and keep your eyes open.

Call me paranoid but I still look around me in public places. Someone with a rucksack? Watch them. Someone looking out of place? Watch them too.

In this country the security services are not allowed to use "ethnic profiling" but the Israelis have no problem with it and neither should you.

I'm so sad that while sitting in a hospital waiting room last week on the anniversary of 7/7 I was keeping tabs on the others in the room! Not in an obsessive way I hasten to add, but I really don't think anywhere is safe anymore.

As Chris' experience supports.

Sleep safe everyone!

There are two things I want to respond to on this thread and for once they are both decidedly serious.

First @Chris I totally understand where you are coming from. My first instinct would be to go round and twat dad one, second would be to go to police and third to go to school. But as I am not violent my first choice would be moot after a nights sleep. The second choice would be immediately enacted if I didn't have kids or other close family who I was concerned about... The second the police get involved you run the risk of some inept plod making things worse and not providing protection to you and yours. I really do understand that fear. Reporting to the school does reduce that risk but may cause an investigation that leads to that inept plod making the connection without the requisite skills to handle the consequences. I really hope you can handle the situation in a way that sorts the little sod and his parents out without putting you and yours at risk. Jeez @Chris I don't envy you. That is a seriously hard situation to make the right call in.

On the other issue of booking holidays to potential terrorist destinations. As a single guy with no family I say f**k them... No one will stop me doing what I want to do due to their warped idea of what their imaginary friend says they should be doing. In fact I would go out of my way to do exactly the opposite. I would obey the legally instituted laws of their country to a tee. For example I would go cold turkey/sober in Saudi and not wear trunks on their beaches. I would go out of my way to be a good guest. However, no Jihadi idiot is going to scare me from going somewhere because of their warped idiology.

However if I had loved ones, I would consider their safety above everything else and to be honest I would not risk taking them to a Muslim country in the first place.

Today I was proud of the British tourists and pretty ashamed of our governments advice even though I understand the reasoning behind it.

Am I the only one who thinks that there is slight over reaction going on here to the incident in the school. Children make threats to other children all the time, just ask in any staffroom, the child may have heard of the beheadings on the news and voices his new threat, it could just have easily be to burn your house down, drown your cat etc.

Unless you had other corroborating information the school, police and social services would register your concern in the big round filing cabinet in the corner.

I accept that every parent wants to / will do everything necessary to protect their child but you should remember that most children have the ability to be nasty little b's to each other, indeed it is part of the growing process, to begin to empathise with others and grow out of this behaviour.

As to worrying about IS and their like, lifes a risk, if you are going to start worrying about what might happen then best put your slippers and dressing gown on and sit in watch the tv all day and night.

Nope, sorry disagree with your there. I don't have kids. But if I did and my kid came home and told me someone threatened to beat them, kill them, slap them silly... I would be worried but within reason. The beheading threat is too specific... Even as a single person with no kids my spidey sense would be tingling like a whatsit at this one... However the level of this threat would be based on where I was living to be honest. If I was living in Bradford then 10, if I was living in a small Derbyshire village where brown meant bread and sun meant red... Then I wouldn't be concerned and the threat level would be around a 3 (so 6 in parent terms).

another disagree i am afraid;

this threat is too specific and current to be disregarded. a 10 year old is quite astute enough to know exactly what he was saying.
this goes unchecked then what does he say or do next as this has now been given the acceptable behavior stamp by doing nothing.

the school have significant responsibilities towards our children and must have in place effective policies and arrangements to deal with such things.

holding them to account is the thing to do IMHO.

My team have just had training on spotting the signs of radicalisation and extremism, and if we had a report with a specific threat we would acting on this immediately.
