If we can in May for 10-12 days . Starting at Calais , cos I hate ferries, and I don’t want to flog my guts out driving every day . We sort of route would you veteran funsters recommend (done Normandy last year ) .

Alsace ?
Circular route via belgium (bit dull?) , Germany and Alsace
the Loire ?

would love to hear your summary suggestions and why they appeal ?

love , scenery , pretty towns , none touristy stuff

Yeah not retired yet so need a practical route

Alsace is lovely.

Another vote for Alsace

Alsace area is very interesting, we were there last week. Some of it is more German than Germany and they appear to speak some form of hybrid language that is a mix of the two languages. Nice to see/experience and the very touristy places are much quieter than usual. Not an area we would return to, but interesting to experience. We basically ended up on the wine route. A well known and normally touristy route.

Oh cheers thanks very much

On our first Europe trip we did Belguim, Netherlands, Luxembourg and France. Not as crazy as it sounds as the borders are close. It was nice to see the difference and made it exciting. It was over a 2 week period. I can dig out the sites we used if it helps.

Have a look at my French trips of 2017 & 2018 links in my signature. A couple of them there is a map of the route on the last or 2nd to last page.

Gorge du verdon and gorge du tarn. Very very scenic. Lovely places. 👌🏻👌🏻

The Loire Valley and a collection of Chateaus could be enlightening.

You should also find that the Loire valley is a boundary after which the climate becomes warmer and sunnier than say Normandy.

Not only chateaux. The awesome tank museum at Saumur is a bloke magnet.

Edit - nearby is Camping Le Po Dore (ACSI) where I always stop. Lovely owners and on-site takeaway food.

These are the ones we stayed at:
