Today when we emptied our waste water into a bucket a piece of paper came out about the size of a large parcel label. There is no way this could get down any of our drains inside the van. After this the waste water was thick and gloopy for a while. We put several watering cans down all the plug holes and now the waste looks normal. Weird eh?

Gosh, how long have you been using the system? Was the paper intact, if so cannot have been in there very long. Could someone have shoved it up the pipe from outside?

We've had the van for 18 months. The paper was pretty ragged but there is a little boy on the pitch next door. Mmmmm ... could be

Some (not all) waste tanks have a cover, which is sited on the top, Allowing access for Screwed fittings to be attached after which they are sealed up, The label would likely be a "Stock" label and has eventually detached, partly blocked the drain, and when it eventually got to the exit has the effect of removing the dam and allowing the Crud behind it to come free?

That makes a lot of sense. Maybe our waste water won't smell so bad now.

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
Was it in a bottle?? You might have a shipwrecked mariner marooned in your grey water tank. (y)

The distinctive smell doesn't occur if you leave the grey waste tap open...

Sounds feasible, I cant see how it could have come from the tank...
We've got a wide bore exit (no rude analogies please ;) )with a right angle bend in it. I guess someone could have fed a bit of paper up there - why they would do that is anyone's guess. It's the thin wallpaper paste consistency of the water that followed it out that confused me. Seriously strange.

Was it definitely paper ?
Over a period of time/use if ALL liquid waste is poured down the sinks, then a brownish deposit will form on the bottom of the waste tank. This deposit will form into a thin skin, and can exit the tank looking like thin wet pieces of paper.

I'd say it was a label originally attached to the underside of the inspection cap which has come unstuck and found it's way out through the pipes eventually ...

So, little tarquin knew to open the waste valve, with the possibility of getting soaked in stinking grey water, then using some kind of probe to push the label right inside the pipe... ?

It's a stock/part number label which became detached or was accidentally or intentionally dropped in the tank by the fitter on installation

... just a thought ... you know how when a dog consumes a piece of tissue you hope it comes out the other end 'wrapping' up the rest of the contents ... you haven't been trying that have you ....????
