Hi all, just had dealer weigh the new van and came back as 3120kg empty which gives me 380kg payload, the 3120 includes driver awning auto box , there will only be 2 of us in the van and don't carry a load of crap (oh forgot the boss ) so it's down to about 310ish , can upgrade to 3650 but will have to renew license in July which I will probably do just incase I need it , just on the side how early do I apply to dvla given the delays we all hear about .

In a word, no.

How full was the fuel tank?

Water?

Extra battery is 25kg.

I would upgrade ASAP.

300KG is not a lot of stuff at all. Full water tank will be around 100kg.

In a word No, will still be tight at 3650, why can't you go to 3850 that would be more sensible.

Some manufacturers give a free upgrade to 3650 but charge a couple of hundred quid for 3850 even though they don't do anything.
Check the Fiat weight plate if the total of the 2 axles is 3850 its just a paper exersize, may need an engineers report from someone like SV Tech.

Interesting, our Inca weighs that fully loaded for an extended European tour, complete with two bicycles on the back.

You'll need to know if it was 90% full of fuel, it should have been. If it was, take off the 75kg (driver) off that weight they gave you and you are left with a forecourt weight of 3045 and 455kg of payload. It's doable but its at the minimum for a couple so you'll always need to be careful. You should get it uprated and give yourself some leeway. (y)

You cannot apply for your new licence at 70 until a max of 90 days before.
They have silkend up a bit recently so it could take anything from 4 weeks to 4 months and some.
I am on 7 months since 1st application and today got confirmation all is well for my licence but they now decided I need a new photo.
Even though I gave them access to my passport photo image which is only a year old.

On our ducato, going from 3500 to 3850 involved fitting air bags to the rear over the leaf springs and fitting 225 rear tyres with a 112 load index.

You go by the last plate fitted so the Pilote one:

MAM (Gross Weight) 3500kg
DTW (Gross + Trailer) 6000kg
Front axle 1960 kg
Rear axle 2000 kg

If you wanted to you could uprate to 3960kg but to make use of the increase you may have to uprate the rear axle & change the tyres if it has 15" wheels. If it's a Fiat chassis you can fit air assist for £300-£700 depending on make of parts DIY or garage etc. If an Alko semi-air is about £2k or full air (rear only) £4.5k.

so would 3850 be ok on 16" wheels without air assist as don't want to keep spending .

Wheel size is only relavant to the rear axle loading if you decided to uprate the rear axle you would only need to change the tyres on 15"wheel 16" should be OK.

Yes it will be OK it is just that you may not be able to use all of the extra 350kg due to rear axle limit as you can't load much at the front end. Depends on the weight distribution in your van.
I uprated my last van I could only use 150 kg of the extra as I was on the limit on the rear axle.
If you do uprate might as well go for the max 3960.
