Just got back from the vets with our dog and spotted this in the back garden (not the startled owl) pecking away at a sparrow. Couldn't get to my camera without running the risk of disturbing it so did my best with my phone camera which isn't the greatest. I think it is a juvenile Sparrowhawk but not sure.

Certainly a Sparrowhawk, hard to tell if it's a this years female or just a male. The reddish suggests male but i'd only know if i had something to compare it against (size wise), males are really small and therefore that could be a juvi female. If so she won't get he adult plumage until next year when she moults.

Nice photos but it's an adult male - the females and juveniles are pale underneath without the reddish tinge.

as above
We had one sat on the wall six feet from our dinning room door earlier this year.It was having a good feed on something and didn’t fly off as we stood in the doorway.
During the two lock downs we have had a lot more bird life in the garden. The starlings and sparrows were there in squadrons.

Thank you one and all. We thought it was a Sparrow Hawk but the white dots on its wings were throwing us, which is why we wondered if it was a juvenile. I suspect we may be seeing it a bit more now it has discovered the all-you-can-eat buffet on the bird feeders.
