We are setting off to the Peleponnese next month. Any recommendations gratefully received. We will be wanting to stay mainly on campsites - does anyone know if there is a need to book ahead for Sept/October - we would prefer the freedom of leaving it to chance, but do not want to be wild camping on a regular basis.

Out of season sites will be fairly empty won't need to book.
I think you are making a mistake not wild camping, it really is good in Greece.

Thank you that’s very helpful! We will probably do some wild camping in amongst - just not all the time!

I'd say no problems getting onto sites, what's your rough itenery we landed Igoumenitsa in June and traveled the Peloponnese anti clockwise staying sites & wildcamping. Also if your doing sites the ACSI book is handy.

Tourism shuts down in Greece towards the end of October. So sites may not be open. Can heartily recommend the southern area of the Peloponnese. Love it there.

Many thanks for the feedback - we arrive Patra mid Sept and leave from Igoumenitsa mid Oct - hope to use ACSI sites but will take heed of the advice given and may even do more wild camping than originally planned.

Wildcamping does not have to be remote. There are plenty of places to park near/in villages.

If you are on MHFacts go to 'peejay's wildcamping blog and map.

In 2010, having recently moved back from France and moved into our present house we decided we needed to chill out for a while. Fortunately one of the first major buys in UK was a Motorhome so we packed up in September and headed for Greece. France, Italy, ferry to Patras and there we were. Turned right off the ferry at Patras and headed down the coast for a couple of hours. Saw a sign for Melissa Beach camping so turned right again and headed beachwards for a couple of nights. Lovely site, we had a pitch right on the beach. Taverna 200metres away that did a good meal and drinks. Net result we chilled so much we stayed there for nearly three weeks before heading back home to do battle with renovations and decorating. It’s a tough life.
