It's a great game, a sort of grown up dominoes. It might look a bit intimidating with all the different tiles - but it's an easy game to learn. There are variations in how it can be played but if you buy a game it will come with a set of rules, just follow those and et collecting those kings and pongs.

We were playing Rummikub on a cuise over the new year when a chap leaned over and said if we like that we would like Mahjong. We joined in the class he ran over the next week or so and it is certainly fascinating but we tried to think too much about what to collect and that's fatal. Speed, speed is the secret of a good game he kept telling us. He was playing it on his tablet in the queue at the airport at the end of the trip but it's not a game I'll find time to learn properly.

I have found the rules on line and no matter how hard I try I fall asleep after the first 10 pages or so !!
I really need to be shown ..
Its a bit like backgammon
Get shown how to play and you will be off and away in no time ( ok, maybe not have all the nuances as that takes a good deal of time and practice, but you can at least play )

I was taught to play it as a child, my grandfather had a beautiful set he had collected on his travels. Not sure I'd remember all the rules now though.
We also played chess, dominoes, jacks and cards etc.

Used to play with hubby to be years ago in his flat that had no furniture except a foam mattress on the floor, we played majong and backgammon and drank vodka Don't remember rules but remember collecting tiles while on the tiles

I learnt how to play this years ago as a Chinese mate taught me and I have a good set in a cupboard here but I haven't played in years and I ain't going to Benicasim anyway, good game, nice place, enjoy.

Took us an hour or so for the basics but too long to actually play a game because we didn't recognise the tiles without using our crib sheets. By the next session (the next morning) we'd forgotten how to start the game, building walls etc. Given time a fascinating game.

Very Addictive. I used to watch the (Chinese) crew members play it, lots of noise. And they lost shed loads of Money to each other. One trip the "Old Man" tried to ban it, after the chippy accused the chief steward of cheating and sat outside his cabin door sharpening his axe, for several hours muttering to himself in Mandarin!. They just went into a store room down aft to play!!>
