Bamburgh Castle has overnight parking for MOHOs at £12 per night - 6 bays no water but bins and portaloos

Seems strange that the blue sign in front of the motorhome says No overnight parking!

I suppose it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick..

But doesn't even come close to a French aire for £12!

I see there is an online booking system at the link above - that is a really good idea - any people abusing the system will be easily identified

One night only but ine night at each means a three night stay - happy days

And that the online booking is mandatory - so should give confidence that when you turn up there is a spot, rather than arriving and someone else is there having paid at the machine. Would be nice if the booked overnight time lasted until say 10am, rather than 8am, but if you can pre-pay the meter for the following morning probably not too much of an issue. We're normally up earlier than that, but would rather it wasn't mandatory.

Could still have issues if someone is "squatting" the spot, but sounds workable to me. Have to give it a go next time we're up that way.

That then makes it totally useless as an Aire, the idea of an Aire is somewhere to stop when touring. Not much chance of getting a spot if everyone pre books.

When we travel in the van we never book anything as we rarely know where we want to stop each day.

Also £12 is a bit steep for 6pm to 8am, no facilities & who wants to get up that early on holiday. £12 for 24 hours would make it more attractive.
All French Aires the charge is for 24 hours.

We had a look at the one at Amble a few days ago....

The car park is free during the day so you only pay the £12 for the 1800-0800.

There is a QR Code on each pitch which, I think, takes you to the payment page.

We're 7.4 metre and with the bumper almost touching the fence we just fit on lengthways.

You would be very snug (a la, Aire de Camping Car) with your neighbours so the end pitches would be best.

We drove a little way up the road and got a field to ourselves for £10.

Why charge overnight then, just seeing Motorhomes as a cash cow.

I suspect, Lenny, that, as it is a trial project, it is a means of making sure that anyone who does long term camping , by staying longer than allowed, can be thrown off without much effort.

We have just had coffee at the Esplanade at Arbroath. We had a walk along to the, recently limited , permitted free overnighting (24 hours, & no camping activites) by the harbour and some MH's were certainly not sticking to the clearly displayed conditions.
