Over and above some fixed price work I want done by a firm of solar specialists, I have asked them to instal some items I already own, namely a B2B charger & a second leisure battery under the front seats of a Fiat Ducato C-Class. I'm happy with their hourly rate to do this extra work but, before accepting the quotation, I am asking learned Funsters for a sanity check on how many hours this extra work should take.

The fixed price work they are doing for me is to supply & fit 4 solar panels and a MPPT, which I assume requires the removal of the seat over the original leisure battery, so I expected the work to fit my extras would be relatively insignificant. They have indicated an extra 4 hours labour.

I really don't want to hack anybody off by challenging the quote if its reasonable, so I'd welcome the views of the more savvy among us.

Thanks in advance.

Seats can be difficult to remove.,4 hrs seems a reasonable quote to remove seat ,position and fasten down additional battery, connect cables.reposition seat. Fit and wire up B2B..
I don't think they would need to remove the seat to fit solar panels or an mppt controller.they just need to get at the terminals to fasten on the cables from the mppt controller ,unless they have advised they require to do that in the fixed price quote.

Sounds reasonable to me having done the instal of a B2B twice and an extra battery, supplying and running cables, preparing and fitting ends to cables, fuses, connect test etc, put back as originally found. I would not be prepared to warrant the work either as who knows how reliable or old your stuff is.

I doubt they need to remove the seat to fit solar and controler as it will probably wire into the electro block or similar

My solar installation (MPPT) is wired directly to the Leisure battery and does not go through my EBL.
It was installed by a certain Taunton based firm.
This would require the driver seat removal as there is no way to access the underseat battery terminals otherwise 😉

4 hours seems very good to me.
I do all my own electrical work, working in Motorhomes is very time consuming due to restricted space & lack of access.

I would estimate 3 to 4 hours for the work, in order to do a decent quality job.
