Newbie but caravanning for years
We have a Burstner Elegance 686 2007, low mileage, Ducato base diesel. We already have a Renault Clio 2004, 3.8m long, and it seems a waste to sell it to buy something slightly smaller to tow behind the m/h. We’ve read the article’s about A frame towing in Europe and plan to go to France, ils d’oleron, in August 2022.
Is the Clio really too big?
And/or, how do we work out what we can tow?
Regards
Kevin

I towed a Clio for about 3 years behind my motorhome on an A-frame with no problem.

It’s a bit difficult to read but it looks like you can tow 1200 kg, this may rule out the Cleo on a trailer, it depends on the kerb weight of the car but it looks at around 1000kg and a trailer will be at least 400 kg.

I doubt we will ever go anywhere other than France in EU, so can I still use an A frame and therefore, at least for the comming summer trip the clio might do?

Can your wife / partner drive
Because if your stopped by some officious Gendarme you may have to uncouple leaving you with problem .
Why don’t you just hire a car if you cannot manage without one , lot less hassle

How close are you to the mgw of 4000kg, if significantly under you can add this to the 1200kg. eg if you are at 3700kg the train wt is still 5200 allowing a towed wt of 5200- 3700 ie 1500kg.

We tow using an A frame but don’t bother in France because we always use Aires and these are normal in or near the town and do any food shopping on route.

Thank you all for your inputs.
We’ve gone off the car idea and now thinking electric scooters, which will encourage the childers to go to the shops while we sip wine 🍷
