We have a SOG. It is connected up correctly, the flame from a taper is drawn downwards, the exhaust pipe is the right length; and downwind, when it is running, well...

We have tried all sorts of additives, Bio this that and the other, even though allegedly they are not needed by the SOG system. But when we open the toilet valve in the middle of the night, or any other time, the stink wafting upwards is, err, horrid.

So the only thing I can conclude is that we produce some kind of super-poo. Or that there is something wrong with our SOG.

Is there any advice out there for us?

Your diet?

One of the reasons we like our Thetford own brand SOG is that the fan is started up and draw out what has been festering in the cassette since the last use before the blade is opened, so no escaping pong into the bowl and beyond.

Ours works very well as who ever we park up next to can vouch for. :whistle2:

I am not a fan of SOG, but I thought the whole point was to send that stink over to your neighbours when the blade is opened

Does your fan run?

Mate! the answer is a large cork and several tubes of "sticks like ****"

It might be less noticeable during the later stages of your self imposed "blockage" if you took up yodalling or maybe playing a tuneless viola, failing that, you could always convert your loo to a 1960 s version of a British Rail loo and only used it while driving, while dribbling your grey waste.

For every problem there is a solution! :hi5:

Our van came with a sog ready fitted by the manufacturer. It was useless so just disconnected it. All well now.

No it wasn't you it was a dutch van :roflmto:

You’re not supposed to stick your nose in it !
Yes it is still smelly if you bend over and examine the contents

Well I have an inspection cover at home lifted right now...Is yours worse:unsure: I'd put a bet on its not! PONG:eek:

I love a toilet thread.:ROFLMAO:

Which type of SOG do you have?
The door mounted ones aren't quite as good as the underfloor or roof vented ones.
You shouldn't get any smells inside the van.

Check none of the pipes have been crushed. I had a bit of a smell from mine found I'd partly crushed the pipe to the cassette when putting the cassette back in.

I"m a bit puzzled by the various sog threads. On our previous van we had a SOG which I fitted and on our current van we have a Thetford pre installed set up
For many years now we have used Aldi/Lidl bio liquid and always emptied at every opportunity. I can honestly say that the cassette has never stunk. That the when the fan is running there has never been a smell outside and that I have never changed the charcoal filter more than once a year, if that. If anything, on emptying, urine alone smells worse than solid material and no combination has been that bad! Can't help suspecting an element of dramatic hyperbole in some comments!

as Michal Caine said "you were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off"

We have a sog factory fit with chimney vent we use the loo for what it is designed for everything !!! and we never get a smell when opening the slide is your sog pipe connected to the cassette properly and is the fan running when you open the slide

Just a thought, but I'd check your fan in in the right way around.
Could it be sucking fresh air in, across the cassette and into your bathroom?

Similar to you but decided on a work around, I decided to fit some small LED courtesy lights in the toilet for late night visits, save putting on the main lights and disturbing the other occupants ( Me)
So used a 12 volt switched PIR to trigger the LEDs as you open the door,
Then had a eureka moment and decided to operate the SOG fan using the PIR,
But I went one step further and put in a second larger fan downstream of the first to really move
The air/smell out towards my neighbors , it works well and every body is happy ?
My secondary fan comes on as you open the toilet door before the the slide is moved so any fumes
Are already on the move out of the vent,

I feel sorry for you lot.

I am lucky.

My deposits have the sweet aroma of freshly cut grass and wild mint together with a smidgeon of vanilla...

Beautiful.
