just noticed what looks like bubbles or a ridge where it looks like the roof is delaminating? Is this normal, and I am being over fussy or is there a problem here, the van is only 3 weeks old, do need to resolve this promptly. I

Not seen or heard of that before.

I'd be having it straight back to get the details on the dealers radar and then sorted asap.

Good luck.

Is this new or second hand , because the seal along the edge doesn't look to clever either:(

I can imagine the ripples would cause the rain not to run away smoothly. Awful for a new van, I would reject it.

It's hard to say looking at the photo what is going on ,but on the modern methods of construction a thin sheet of plastic is bonded to dense foam... where they have inlayed timber or placed trunking in the foam you quite often see a slight raise in the plastic when viewed at a shallow angle so it may not be a problem. .. hope it's not...
I'll attach a picture of a plug I cut out of my roof to let you see what I'm on about re the possible construction...

The surface over most of the roof is solid, the raised bits definitely seem to be air bubbles as opposed to just slightly raised over supports, when pushed there is little resistance. Think I'll be running it back to the dealers tomorrow.

That's definitely faulty ... I recall when we had a Swift Suntor 2001 vintage and got a shock one day when I went up to clean it to find it was like Telly Tubby land, but it was a hot day and this was a known occurrence with alloy roofs and it soon went back when it cooled, but not with the type of roof construction you have.

The sealer looks like it's been added after the construction can't see the other side to compare, but should look like it's should be squashed out.

Its a fibreglass roof and should be fully bonded as far as I know, it would be worth hearing from another Dethleffs owner as to what theirs looks like, but a question of the dealer might be a good idea.

Certainly doesn't look like our Dethleffs roof from new.
Looks more like storm damage repair.?

All the best

Just spoke to dealers, before I went into detail, he described it, and said that is "normal" every Dethleffs with a fibreglass roof is the same..... which is slightly re-assuring, but still does not seem right, I am currently awaiting a call from someone else in the dealers, but this concerns me, as presumably the long term effect of expansion/contraction on the roof will cause it to fracture?

Our Dethleff is similar, I'll take a photo in a day or so when I bring it to the house for packing. If you are a member of the Dethleffs Owners Club ask Richard for his view, if not I can ask on your behalf...

I know this is a Dethleffs caravan and a poor picture BUT there looks to be something going on on this roof, the picture is from the Dethleffs brochure.

Thank you Martin, that looks the same as mine, so it seems "normal" you would have thought for the brochure they would have sorted it though.

I think a lot of German manufacturers have been forced by insurance companies to fit a GFK/fibreglass roof, it would be interesting to ask if this is loose fitted over an aluminium skin as it obviously not bonded.

Ours is not a fiberglass roof, perhaps that is the difference?

It looks similar to the ripples we had on the side of our aluminium clad Hobby van
They are a natural part of rolling an aluminium skin

Get some evidence/record cobbled together to show that you have raised this issue with the dealer and confirmation from the dealer in writing (email with attached pictures) that it is normal and fault free. Then you have some fall back later on if you need to challenge them.
