65 & 61, started in 1988 and in the beginning for us it was certainly a money thing, (not enough:cry:!)
We still see loads of :eek:youngsters in veedubs (of all ages) enjoying themselves.(y)

Had our first campervan when in our 30's then left for a bit and went to a tent then back to a camper and now a motorhome, will not go back but may go to the "dark side" and become a tugger when we retire. Now 62 1/2.::bigsmile:

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
I don't think it's money or age related at all.
You see some very cheap older motorhomes out and about . We've had caravans let alone cars , that would have cost more than them.
The only time it's age related ( IMO) is when someone waits until they retire and spends the nice big lump sum they got on one !
Or someone's elderly parents die and they spend the inheritance on one.

I think it's more of a personal choice.
Realising how much easier they are than caravans , how much more luxurious than tents.
We are relatively new to motor homing , 6 years , so that would have meant I was 45 and Ralph 42 when we saw the light !

I bought my first coachbuilt as opposed to using a panel van in 1971 at the age of 24, it was a Bluebird highwayman I bought it secondhand for the princely sum of £400 a lot of money back then. It had stood in a garden and had been used as a summerhouse for 4 years. I put a battery on and took it for MOT, and passed first time. Not sure what age the van was but 60's I think. I sold it 8 years later.

I have always wanted one but my wife didn't; she wanted to turn left on the plane. However, after getting the "all clear" post Breast cancer treatment her attitude has changed. She would never have agreed to the kids having a dog, but she wanted one immediately after treatment so along came Monty. Now she wants a motorhome so we can all go on holiday and spend as much weekends out and about as possible. We are 49 and 46 respectively.

Virtually the same here. Still just in our 40's. Worked full time, (and still doing so, alas), educated our 3 offspring and with just one officially left at home (other 2 keep coming back, but put them on house sitting duty whilst we go away) we have a little bit more money, but also more personal time to please ourselves as not tied down by so many children activities at the weekend. Just 2 school terms to go. We are off on our first ski trip February half term in 25 years thanks to the motorhome as it is now a financially viable -(even in 1/2 term). Previously family of 5 with flights/chalets and passes was completely out of the question before.
So in long rambling way it's an age/ finance /time available thing

63 today! (Daughter is 23 today). Just returned from a few days in Normandy and saw this poster at the Channel tunnel entrance - I suppose you can read it two ways - but I think the letter "O" should be pronounced "Oh">

I don't know if I'm in the running for one of the oldest. I was 87 in July and my wife is 86 on Thursday (25/09/2014). We'll see you all hopefully at Lincoln from that date. We caravanned from 1975 but when it got a bit much unhitching, after a heart attack, we decided to go Motorhoming, although we do miss the car.

A few years now
2 possible biggest factors:
Get to a certain age where too many family/friends have passed away & they have not always been that old so realize life really is too short to wait to live. Reinforced by their regrets at what they never got to do.
Being able to get enough money together somehow maybe sacrificing other things that no longer seem as important anymore.
Most motorhomers we have met have also had illness or health scares which has made them grab what's left of life by the goolies - us included!

74,

1st was an ex Forestry Gang Bus that I converted myself to go overnight fishing on Murawhai Beach, which was a recognized Highway at Low Tide, also used it for a "battle bus" when on the picket line during disputes.
