Buyer beware, the money I am spending is a lot to me, I take safety very seriously and spending this huge amount to correct shall we say a pickle that I found myself in with regards to be limited on payload in my old van, I want to ensure the new one fits and suits my needs, once bitten twice shy ;)

OK, lets apply this to the real world now

Having got your upgrade and full wheel spec are you going to get weighed every time you leave the drive to confirm legality

10 % safety margin will be built in and more so, you may still be illegal but safe ? most MH’s plated around 3.5t - 4t will be very close to or over weight

Well, well, well!!! I have just got home and opened my mail, low and behold there is a letter from Swift, funnily enough it relates to a concern and safety issue I raised a week or so ago when I examined the vehicle about the safety of the front lowering bed, my concern was the mechanism could fail and with the attached lockers smash into my grandchildren’s head. Now I don’t yet own this vehicle and have no idea why it was sent to me as the owner although I have placed a deposit, but here it is, very interesting, this will be scanned and sent to my dealer ASAP.

Maybe raising concerns does help!

NOBODY at this time can give me the weight limit of the original Fiat alloy wheels, if anyone can then that would be appreciated.
As you're concerned about the wheels it's probably a good idea to get the vehicle's designed limit for the braking system if you're uprating.............

I have instructed professionals to deal with the upgrade issue, I am not an expert in these matters, so will be taking their advice, I understand that do I have upgrade brakes.

Wouldn’t it be less stressful to go and stay in an hotel?

I just find it amazing that Swift themselves have no idea what the weight limit is for the alloy wheels they use, surely the Swift design engineers should know that! Anyway the question was sent by them to Fiat last week, I’m still waiting for the reply.
Is that a bit OCD?

The FIAT alloy wheels as fitted to the heavy chassis are suitable for 1250 KG each, giving a max axle load of 2500 KG. As you correctly state, to go to a higher axle load than this you will require a stronger wheel.

I would do all my research online about the model I was looking for before I went to look at any van.

Sometimes you can make yourself look a bit of a twat by asking stupid questions like how much overhang has it got.

I think the go in fazes, my old one was exceptional hence it sold in a couple of days but that was 2004 model year, I heard they had a few bad years, here's hoping 2019 is a good year or I could be regretting changing!

Sometimes if you are looking at motorhomes at a dealership and see one you like its better to ask them there and then about certain things, seems a bit daft to then go home and look it up on the internet, what are the salesmen there for?

Have you got the technical data sheet for that please as I need it for SVTech. Thanks (y)

More out of curiosity than anything. Does anyone have a source for makers of the alloy wheels fitted to the Sprinter based series?.

If you are genuinely concerned about the load rating of your alloys then fit steel wheels, they are significantly stronger and more resistant to damage.

I think you're entitled to ask as many questions as you like, you're spending a shedload of money. Still, you may be going a little too deeply ?
Don't ever confuse buying a new car with buying a new motorhome. The former are less complicated, cheaper and have warranties that do not differentiate between base vehicle and everything else. Also, car warranties are usable across dealers, those of motorhomes only MAY be.

Sorry, I was was just passing on the info from Carthago, when I enquired about going from 4500kg to 4700kg. The heavier wheels are available from Goldschmidt to use with the 121 rated tyres. I'm surprised SV Tech haven't got this info as several of the Carthago owners have done this upgrade.

Ask what is the payload and in real terms what does it mean. I read a road test of a 4 belted, 4 berth Motorhome in the C andC Club magazine the other day. It stated that if a buyer drove away from the dealer with 4 passengers and a full load of fuel, the van would be overloaded, even before any kit etc is added!

Ask how long is a piece of string.......and demand an answer.
That'll give them something to think about
It's around about 6". Any longer and you'd either loop it up and it would be a skein of string, longer a ball or coil of string. Any shorter and you'd chuck it as its not long enough to use as a shoe lace or to knot it.
