I bought a new 2016 model Swift 644 from Marquis in Preston in December last year paying a notable sum. I have had many faults with the van and find the aftersales service appalling and their ability to sort out the most minor issues beyond their ability.
Has anyone else had problems with this dealer.......eight months on, money/time spent taking the van to and fro and still the same problems exist?

You will get top opinions and advice on this forum fun. It's been a resource that has been invaluable to me at least. You only get 5 posts though unless you sub . It's 15 a year and well worth it.
I just read that back and it sounded like a sales pitch , it wasn't . It's well worth it , it's a club of sorts everyone helps each other .only said because you wasted a post saying thanks for the welcome l(y)

Hello and Welcome to Fun.
Sorry you've had so much trouble. Should not happen with a new vehicle, should it ? I think you have cause to demand a full refund or replacement with a new vehicle. Provision of Goods and Services Act, I think is right one to quote. ( I quoted that at a lawyer the other day, who couldn't provide a decent service if you handed him a tray. He seemed surprised so I'm assuming it was the right one to throw at him)

We've a few legal people on here who'll be able to tell you your rights, I'm sure, just hang on til the morning)

It certainly is @DeanA
This IS a sales pitch :).. The guys and gals on MHF are worth every penny. I'm new to MHF always been a tent or tent tugger till now and the advice, help, pointers (never mind the banter etc etc) have been invaluable. In purely financial terms they've saved me a fortune between them (most of which I owe them as pints .. or a cheeky chardonnay next time we meet :drink:)

I think if you search the fora (thats my school Latin showing through..:)) you will find a lot of similar experiences with Marquis. Fortunately I had the benefit of @Snowbird and others and bought an RMB....:D:D:D

:thanks3:

Hi Dean and welcome
Although I didn't have any problems with my van (well only a minor one) I have had real problems with Marquis concerning our first hab check which I'm sure you are already booked in for next year. You can see my problems here:

Pls don't take this too personally OP but why are Brits such wimps when in receipt of lousy service? Pretend that you are a thoroughly objectionable (normal) American and take them to court. CAB (if it still exists) will give loads of "how to" free advice otherwise use the interweb. I hope that you have not waited too long though.

Sorry to hear about your problems, it isn't the first time that I've heard about people being unhappy with their service unfortunately.

Hope you do join as there are lots of very experienced folk who would be able to advise.....

Our dealings with Marquis has made us distrust every other dealer in the uk. We just bought another motorhome from another dealer with promises made. Let's see how they pan out?

Not sure if this is consolation, but it maybe shows it is now just you, I cant even get pre sales service

Rant on

went down to my local Mercedes car dealers, we have driven Mercs for over 10 years, mostly newish, maybe because I was wearing shorts and t shirt and had my dog in tow, got no attention

Managed to get some by direct approach, was told someone would be with me shortly, 15 minutes later nobody still! Found a 'business manager' told him I had looked round and couldn't actually see a car I wanted right then, but could they please value mine to save me having to bring it down again later. Once we know the spec we want I am happy to buy without driving as we know what we want and what they do

The cheeky sod suggested I call 'we buy any car dot com' I said I wanted to trade it in for a new one, mine is a 2 year old E class estate with only 18K miles, we are not talking about some rusting wreck here and I am looking at £40K cars

No wonder the last 2 Mercs we have bought from other dealers to our local one

Rant off

Not just you, and not just motorhomes, but why do we have to suffer this poor service, I will email the genral manager to tell him today, but will be looking to buy elsewhere on principle, my local delaer does at least have an excellent service department

Welcome to the forum :) we do have informative and fun posts as well as grumpy ones (y)
Email the manager I would be demanding to speak to the manager right away before the sales man came around from his coma
Cheeky sod David

Hi DeanA ,I bought a new van from the same dealer in December like yourself but have only had one issue with it but it did take many phone calls and two vists to get it sorted out . In the end I had to get a bit stroppy with them to get the problem sorted . I am hoping to replace this van in about three years but proberley won't deal them again .

To my old voxhal pickup and told their was nothing I could possibly afford at that the manager turned up are you OK bill the sales mans face almost dropped off.
How will you be paying cash or card
I spent 25000 that day on two used vehicles

Seriously I've only been a member here a month of two and if i could put a monetary value on the information i have received here i would say it would be into the £100's and also saved me a fortune from buying the wrong items for my MotorHome.

Hi and welcome!

If it's any consolation we bought a new Chausson from the other dealer just down the road from your supplier. The van has been great with very few problems however; the sales and after sales were poor. Seems like this is a fairly common problem which is outrageous when you spend the kind of money theses things cost!

We bought our first van, also a Swift, from Marquis and had a number of problems.
The aftersales service was not good and when the poor build quality faults had to be sorted out there was a fair bit of 'bodging'.
Eventually we took the van back to the Swift factory where the repairs were done properly.
Would I return to them? No.

Richard.

Let's not tar all dealers with the same brush. We bought our new Hymer from Becks and they were very good both before and after the sale.
Agreed Peter, the dealer we bought from were excellent (y)......going well beyond our expectations.

There are good ones out there.

Understand how you must feel, if I had purchased our van from new it would be took back and a fefund would be asked for, unfortunately the company who does the warranty work for Hobby, Cathargo and many more also offers appalling service, the warranty work I have witnessed done by them is more like a company called Bodge it an Scarper, so instead of waiting months for an appointment and being dissapointed with the work they do i prefer to do it myself, that way i know whats been done...It really makes me wonder how some of these companies get contracts from motorhome manufacturer's in the first place

I think most large dealers are run by salespeople, a good mechanic costs money so they employ monkeys and pay them peanuts, or don't employ any at all and just blag it.

Maybe before you buy you should look in the workshop, and see if it looks capable of repairing motorhomes or just polishing them.

Welcome on board and sorry to hear of the issues with both van and dealer. Luckily, the van we wanted this time around was with a family run dealer with great service. Stick to your guns and don't take no for an answer, escalating it upwards beyond the sales monkeys.

Oh and it is worth the £15 - you will get more than that back on discounts
