Just spotted this on the Animal Health Certificate Facebook group:

It would be useful to see a copy of this directive. Is there any Funster in France who would be able to obtain one, please?

That’s not good news. Got plans to visit vet today. Will see what happens.
Also the possibility of popping across to Germany??

It will be a pain for a lot of people if it’s true. :( Hopefully you will manage to get one in France ok. Please let us know how you get on.

When we were doing research we found three (I think) vets in Germany but over towards the east. The German vets all insisted on giving a further rabies jab before issuing a Pet Passport. There were also a couple of vets we found in Belgium. See posts #22,23,24 & 42 in the research thread:

We use the slightly crazy and very opinionated Dr Cristian Marks in Bernkastle Kues, if anyone is going to help, he will.

What did you expect for 8€ ? 😂
That’s very irritating I’m sure, however we do enjoy our visits as it usually involves listening his latest rant, usually quite offensive but invariably amusing.

Oh yes :) Last time we went he trimmed Dillons nails too..
Asked him how much and he said ( with a big grin )...'Your lot voted to leave us.. I feel sorry for you so no charge :-)'

I didn't mention this (latest info) on Saturday because I knew there would be skeptism. However, I concur, while taking a wandering dog to the vets at Montreuil, I asked, out of interest for friends, about getting an EU pet passport from them.
They were very apologetic, and read off of the computer screen the latest info they had, and that they were no longer allowed, the owner had to have been in France for 3 months minimum before a licence could be issued. New rules they said. More apologies....

it has really got to be being done just to inconvenience Brits as there is no logical reason for it. Nowhere does it say that to obtain a pet passport you have to live there for a prescribed period, but countries are allowed to make there own rules.

I wonder what the situation is in France, re getting a rabies booster in order to extend an existing EU passport.🤔

If anyone is going to a French vet for worming etc, I'd be very grateful if they could enquire. 🙂

I find him very amusing and if anyone can do the pet passport I'm sure he will.

France would probably be the country of choice for most Brits seeking an EU Pet Passport, and French vets could have been onto a nice little earner. If France makes it difficult then Brits will just look to neighbouring countries instead. France’s loss.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow for us. 11 am appointment 🤫🤫
If you’ve made an appointment does that mean the vet has already agreed to issue your EU Pet Passport?

Yes. Ish.

We have popped into vet as passing. Asked can we have a passport, yes, was reply to wife (I was in van down the road with dog). Too busy today will have to be tomorrow ok says wife will check with hubby. Returns to van, discuss and decide to stay at poo aire in odd town for night as REALLY want this sorted. Go along to vets an hour or so later to make appointment, they ask for details. We hand over uk driving licence and other stuff. They say great. See you at 11am tomorrow for appointment. We go to bar.

Thats story so far.

Sounds promising. Hope all goes smoothly.

The Frenchies (Macron in particular) should remember who came to their aid in 1944
Who..... oh aye The UK, America, Australia, New Zealand, Polish, Nepal, Russia..... the list goes on... Its time some in this country remembered the help we also got to stop Germany and the Nazis...

We are no longer EU members, as a country (I wanted to spell that wrong!) we cut off our nose to spite our face and still want the benefits of EU membership? Do you give up Gym membership and still expect to go to the Gym on the same terms?

I'm in France looking to buy our main residence here so are now temporary residents for 12 months rather than visitors. We are part way through the process of changing our dogs over to French passports. The actual rules are that you should be a resident in France to obtain a French passport for your dog/dogs whereas earlier this year, most vets (including the one in Montreuil) would simply issue them.

As far as I'm aware, there is now a requirement for the animal(s) to be registered on the ICAD register (in case it's lost or stolen), and a rabies booster given by the French vet as they shouldn't be transferring over the UK administered vaccination details. Some vets are happily issuing to people who have a second home in France as this is still a grey area. Some are also transferring over the rabies vaccs details and not registering with ICAD but my personal opinion is that this will stop sooner rather than later.

Anyone who has a vet who will issue a passport to a visitor, go get it ASAP 🙂

Nope....couldn't see anywhere he had said they didn't or that it was just us...

On our return from Spain, at our brother's (French resident) vet. Had both dogs given rabies vac. One about to run out in days other one 9 months. Had dogs GB chips registered on ICAD and got EU French pet passports. This was in April.
For us this was cheaper than the quote £150 per dog for GB pet certificate from our vet here with the 4 month restriction.
Luckily we do not have the 90 day restriction as one of has an Irish EU passport.
So now a multi national passported family - lol

I have found the following on a French vet’s Facebook page which is quite useful:
