We are currently on an independent site Doubltrees Farm at St. Blazy, 10mins walk from Eden project, I had an interesting conversation with the owner who was saying that many of the camp sites are down on bookings with some of the bigger sites talking about closing facilities down such as pools etc to save on staff costs.

Have any if you seen any signs that it’s quieter in Cornwall?

Whilst the tourist businesses obviously want visitors many of the rest of the population actively and vociferously discourages them so I am not surprised.
During Covid(understandably) they were very anti tourism but the way they expressed themselves may well have lingered in many memories, mine included.
It would take a lot to make me visit Cornwall for anything other than an emergency- and I've never had an emergency holiday yet!!

The two close to Heligan gardens were very busy during our visit in May. Polperro was also very busy. The Three Pilchards pub down on the harbour was standing room only and the three floors for dining were full. Everywhere we visited was busy.

All the greedy site owners doubling accommodation prices during covid has hopefully come back to bite them!!
Not quite true Doubletrees is £20 per night for hard or grass with water, EHU and full shower and toilet block, but cannot comment on other sites.

We’ve just com back from a week at Damage Barton then on to Merrose. Farm. Have to say Falmouth , St Mawes and Portscatho are the quietest I’ve ever known. When we were near Woolacombe it was only relatively busy at weekend. Never had problem walking into pubs or restaurants for meals. In my opinion yes very quite for what it usually but school holidays will be starting soon

were going near heligan in a few weeks, tregarton park, its always busy there,

We were there from about 10th-20th June. It seemed pretty quiet, can't really tell as we'd never been before but we just found sites as we went, nowhere was full some sites far from it. Spoke to one local who said same time previous year everywhere was full. One site was asking £13 a night for ehu....we declined the offer.

Busy- ish here in North Cornwall. Many outlets closing early due to staff shortages!!
I can almost hear a new mantra starting, " get Brexit undone" . Now if we only had a charismatic campaign frontman with some time on his hands 😅.

We were in Cornwall for the last week. The sites we used were not busy but a lot of the attractions and towns were busy. I would hate to see them in the summer holidays if that is considered quiet.

For anyone travelling and wanting to visit Port Isaac (Portwenn for all Doc Martin fans), don't use the main carpark, which charges £12 for any vehicle over 5m long, use the Brooklands View car park next door which charges £5 per day, regardless of how long your vehicle is.

The cost of fuel will be putting many off from travelling long distances
We are due to go to Cornwall next week but I’m having seconds thoughts since it’s going to be near
£200 worth of diesel each way from Scotland

I don't like being fleeced for fuel but I always knew the moho would eat the stuff. Compared to July 2021 it costs around £30 extra at the moment to fill 70 litres from empty. Keep an eye on the prices just off the motorway. It's about 209p at Gretna but the Carleton BP just off jctn 42 of the M6 it's 193.9p. Morrison's Penrith is another, only 5 mins from the A66 junction and it's also 193.9p. On the M5 we always try for the Taunton Sainsbury's which again is 2 mins from the motorway. Off to Arran at 0600 so I've been having a look for the trip. The fuel apps are useful.

The Staycation camping boom will have softened with air travel package holidays etc Plus for many families they will be feeling the pinch of inflation high fuel costs and energy rises (plus the eye watering ones due in October)

Isn't it strange how quickly we become used to and accept high prices and think 1.93.9 (8.81 a gallon in old money) is cheap😁

You're way off the mark on the fuel costs!

£382.15 (@avg £1,78 \ litre) for 7 weeks worth in April \ May this year from Bothwell including a detour into Garleston!:giggler::tounge:

we`ve got 5 to 6 days that we haven`t booked for yet, any recommendations for cheap sites would be appreciated. no need for EHU just toilets and water,
you would of thought given the overseas holiday problems and airports cutting loads of flights, staycations would of been on the rise.
We`ve been going to Cornwall for years, mostly in tents and you normally have to book at least by Christmas to get a decent pitch.

It's the same in Whitby not as busy as last year most likely because people are jetting off again.

480 miles
Given that it’s around £1.98- £2 a litre and I get on average 23-24mpg at 60mph towing 1700kg so it’s approximately 21 gallons of diesel
So £190 worth of fuel and if it’s into a headwind even worse

We live a mile the other side of Eden and every Saturday morning we drive through St Austell on the A391, we see varying amounts of traffic leaving Cornwall always much busier every other Saturday, lots of motorhomes and caravans on the move. We have road works in the village at the moment with traffic lights that are not synchronized with the village crossroad lights and that's causing mayhem.
Historically, Cornwall does not get super busy until the schools break up but with all the extra holiday accommodation available in recent years all wanting a slice of the cake, it could seem that it's not as busy as past years.

But if you drive a little slower,, say 55 like I do,, and get 26 - 27 mpg (mine is 4tonnne) then you too could save around £30 each way,,
Now,, that has to appeal to a Scotsman surely.

I could but then you get snarled up with the HGVs , I prefer to keep in front of them

Might be too late now but make sure you fill up at Asda Ardrossan before heading to Arran.

It seems the Brexit work force are being blamed for work not being done ! I wonder does that say something about the indigenous population work rate?
