Just lately we have had numerous posts saying £30 upwards to £100 pounds a night is good value to just park a van up for a night, does anyone stop and think state pension is around £20 a day for everything, now I am not pleading poverty but does that sound like good value, it doesn't to me.
Have people today just got too much money , iv worked months for less than £20 , in a different time I know but it just makes me stop and think before shelling out these amounts, in fact I couldn't do it.
Has money just lost all value now?

Being a TFG, it is hard to stop the habits of a lifetime now we find ourselves absolutely loaded (I mean we dont have to monitor the bank at the end of the month)
We are even going to pay for some camping car parks in our next holiday, mainly because the fridge doesnt work on gas atm

I was gutted at paying 8 euros on an aire in France this year but managed to hold it down to 13 euros total for aires and a few euros for water over the 3 weeks we were there, so you can imagine how close I was to a heart attack and palpitation when we had to pay over 20 quid a night for the couple of sites when we were in Cornwall back in July as Cornwall is pretty well devoid of wild camping spots. :frowny:

Never given a thought to how much state pension I get and I've been drawing mine for 10 years.
Maybe I'm naïve but I'd be surprised if many folk with motorhomes have only the state pension as their income.

I refuse to pay anything close to £30 a night.
Just paid £10 for first night then £15 a night for a couple of nights just the opposite side of the fence of a CCC site which wanted £30 a night.
Moving Monday to another location £12 a night. The CCC site a few hundred meters away is around the £30 mark.
I think it’s a combination of higher staycation numbers, some price increases and exploitation of the market.

I'm with you chaser, but if someone is willing to pay, someone else is very willing to take!

I don’t think anyone had too much money 😂. I guess we all value different things. I rarely stay on sites but occasionally I do, if it offers me something I can’t get elsewhere e.g. at Collioure.
Last time we were at Collioure I thought it was 12 euros including a free shuttle into the town, has it gone up?

Definitely not! Both work full time. Him indoors drew his pension at 50 and we bought our Arto..Small mortgage compared to many. Only 1 child...who costs us a small fortune 🤣🤪

That's not my point though, some people are managing on £20 aday others are paying three times this just to park a van :(

Not loaded but expect to be paying more for future campsite stays. I posted the offer I received from OVO £6,000 for an annual dual fuel estimate. Campsites will be paying a lot more for their services and will have to pass this on. Wouldn’t be surprised if £40 is the norm next summer.

Ah, I see, the cost of sites?
I never tour in the U.K. and generally use sites abroad. I stop wherever takes my fancy and only discover the site cost when I check in. I've never felt overcharged but then I avoid large and full-fat sites purely because I don't like them and prefer the basic Municipal type.
I didn't buy a m/h in order to have cheap holidays.

I very much hope you are completely wrong.

I've always said that if a site / overnight is approaching the cost of a travelodge, then it's a no.
My son stayed at a Premier Inn last week in Leicester at £96 a night.

Ah yes maybe but how much did you pay in cross channel fares and diesel to get to those aires?
Work it out over the holiday and the UK campsites are not a lot dearer.

THS for us most of the time, with the C&CC, just spent four nights at a sports club field about 10mins walk into Henley-on-Thames.

Loads of space, £14 a night... no EHU just water and waste.

I think most people who pay that amount must be still working and it is a lot less than a hotel room (y)

Cornwall is not exactly on our doorstep, and we use Tesco vouchers to pay for our tunnel crossings, so in the general scheme of things, it was probably cheaper going to France and a bloody sight nicer and more welcoming. (y)

Everyone to their choice but overnighting on a sports club field doesn't appeal to me one bit.
