Doing under bonnet checks and thought: that's odd - I don't remember this electrical connector being exposed. It sits just behind the nearside headlamp.

Has some kind of cover gone missing or are they all like this?

If there is a cover missing mines missing too, I really don’t think anything is missing .(y)

No, nothing missing. I spray all these connectors (you will find more if you get under the front of the van and look up in front of the engine and below the fuse box) with "Damp Start" type protective spray - the semi-permanent film type, not the water dispersant - as part of routine preventative maintenance. Electrical problems due to water ingress and corrosion inside the cable sheathing are not unkown.

its for the flux capacitor, which is an available option only at manufacture, so no time travel for you then:(
