Question for anyone more techie than me...

I have a 2000w pure sine wave inverter fitted.

When I use it to charge touch screen devices the touch screens don't work whilst they are plugged in. With my Kindle Fire I can't use it at all unless I unplug it, with the iPad the screen goes mad, zooming and scrolling g at random.

Any ideas?

Wild guess..

all electrical devices, in this example your inverter, have a magnetic field around them and also give off radio waves or RF .. this could be what is affecting your iPad and Kindle.

How close are the devices to the inverter ?

The length of the charging lead. I could try it with an extension lead and see

I still think it's to do with the RF given off by the inverter..

Gets my vote. A capacitive touch screen ( all the good ones ) consists of a transmitter and array of receiver aerials under the screen. It's a tine radar station.

The RF could be transmitted down the main cable. Some form of ferrite suppressor **might** block it.

But I'd say 2000W inverted is a mighty inefficient way to charge a few watts of iPad. Find a 12V charger.

I was only using it because all the other sockets (12 & 230 volt) in the van were in use. It isn't really there for charging purposes

NickNic - it doesn't help your current issue but to increase the 12v charging capacity in my van I bought 2 of these

and mounted them by the 12v sockets.

The supported 10amps across the 3 outlets is ample for most needs.

Then in one of the sockets on each adaptor I've put in one of these

So now I've enough sockets availbable for both mine and hubby's stuff.
