Hi Top

Hit the road in 2014
I have bought a victron 500w inverter and my plan is to run cables from leisure battery to a busbar which will feed the charge controller with its own fuse. The next feed will go to a 50amp fuse then to an isolator switch and onto the inverter. I do not intend to connect to other sockets in the van other than I will fit specifically for the inverter. I have looked at other posts and now I am confused as people are talking about fitting relays grounding neutral wires. Can anyone give advice if my idea will work, or comment if I need to add anything extra.

I don't understand the reference to a charge controller.

The fuse should be as close to the battery as possible. The isolater can be anywhere after this.

The charge controller is for the solar panel to charge engine battery and leisure battery.

Mines not connected to any charge controller just to leisure batteries with a single socket taken int van for use of any 240v kit we use?fuse as DBK has already stated?

The charge controller is for the solar panel to charge engine battery and leisure battery.
But that doesn’t need to be anything to do with the inverter?

So basically all you are doing is fitting a busbar and connecting the inverter to that and also the solar controller , rather than just running both to the battery direct . ! ?

As you said, buss bar and split to inverter via fuse and controller via fuse. Keep it simple and use separate outlet from inverter. What model is it?

I think I understand now. :) But I would still add a fuse between the battery and the busbar at the battery end, otherwise your busbar is unprotected. A 50 amp megafuse, which blow at 100 amps would be my suggestion. A conventional 50 amp fuse is a bit tight for 500W.

You don't have to ground one side of the output from the inverter even if it was me which suggested it. :) Follow Victron's instructions, whatever they are.

As you don't mention cable cross-sections and lengths it is not clear if you are compliant with the manual's installation instructions.
As to the purpose of a relay etc, click on my avatar and download an inverter guide from Fun resources.

The cable is 16mm and it about a meter away from battery. I will take you up on your advise and fit a mega fuse at battery. Thanks for the advice much appreciated.
