Recently had a 2000 P/S inverter fitted. The remote part of the inverter has six lights on one side and under the remote switch are two lights one green and one red.

Without the mains plug in, the the six green lights down side stay green
and the green and red light under the remote switch stay alight and whines Red of course means faulty .

When the mains is plugged in all the green lights stay on an no red show.

any suggestions

When your 240V mains supply is connected your 240V to 12V mains charger is boosting / charging your batteries.
If the batteries are low the inverter may whine when you turn on the inverter.
You can unplug your inverter remote and see what happens to your inverter under load.
Solar panels don't do much in winter.
Your batteries may be causing the issue not the inverter / remote switch.
Your inverter needs to be relatively close to the batteries to avoid voltage drop.

Did the inverter came with a manual? What inverter is it? Could be many things showing red, even a low voltage. Try measure voltage when is on and when is off. With mains and without. Some do not want to be dc negative bonded to chassis as the AC earth is bonded (hard wired) to neutral AC. Some do this via relay, not hard wired.

If only you could explain better, then folk could help you better.

If you had it installed, refer back to the installer. They will be familiar with what you have and are talking about.

Other attempts to help may have you chasing about in all directions, and possibly unnecessarily.
