Our van (Elddis Majestic 125) was a bit cool on occasions last winter. I was toying with the idea of getting some curtains to divide the cab off from the rear of the van. I looked at the VanX ones but I don't think they would be easy to fit in our van. A simple curtain rail across the van is easy enough and maybe some shower curtains would fit. I thought this might make the body of the van easier to heat and also help with heating (or cooling) the cab in extremes.

Has anyone else done this (must have...). Was it worth the effort?

dont think shower curtains would give much if any benefit, I would be looking at some thermal lined curtains.

I fitted a spring rod and a curtain with eyelets (from Dunelm or B&M I think) between the bed and the rest of the van in ours.
Basically it means I don't disturb Jill in the morning as I like to get up earlier.

In a previous camper I used a sprung curtain pole - there are different 'girths' so you can get one that's strong enough but slimmer than a standard sprung shower curtain type which tend to be quite chunky. It fitted nicely between the 2 walls of the camper and I just hung some thermal lined curtains on it, to remove the curtains for when they weren't needed, or to wash them the whole pole could be taken off easily and the curtains 'poured' off one end with the rings and then the rings removed 'in comfort' rather than trying to unhook them whilst the pole was in situ.

Thanks for the responses - very helpful. I will definitely be trying this in depths of the winter.

Curtains now fitted. They look good and tuck away really well. Just need to try them out.

Assuming you are already fitting Silver Screens on your cab windows as no talk of them in earlier posts. If not a warmer cab awaits you.

Few years
We replaced the front curtains in our Elddis 115 and it made a lot of difference. The original ones where thin and quite short so allowed drafts in from the doors...
We replaced with a set that where full length right down to the floor and about 12 inches wider so when they close and the seats are swivelled they aren't tight/short. With them being thick and lined it makes a big difference

Update. The curtains have been in use for a while now. They are a success. The van is warmer. Less drafts. Wife likes them (result!). I haven’t bothered to use the external screen cover so far this year as the curtains are more convenient and don’t get wet if it rains.

A few tests with thermometers showed a 4c difference between the cab area and the main part of the van. The curtains were cheap readymade thermal ones.

Further update. Since installing the curtains we have not used the external screen cover at all. That being said, the screen cover could still be valuable in some situations so it keeps its place in the van. Overall very pleased with the effect of such a cheap and easy modification to the van.

Presume you have cab curtains fitted by converter, could you not replace these with the blue ones and keep them long onto the floor and gain a bit of extra internal space? Ours came with a cab curtain that’s more like a duvet, great in winter bit of a pain to stow Due to thickness

I fitted them. Reducing the internal space is what they have been designed to do. It makes it easier to heat the remaining space. When not in use they tuck neatly behind the pillars to the rear of the cab seats so only the tops of the curtains remain visible. It all works rather well (for us at least!).
