Hi all, can anyone explain why my 1997 Fiat 2.5 TD sometimes loses accelleration even going downhill at full throttle speed cannot get above 42 mph ?This situation has been happening lately, the engine somehow rectifies itself and accelerator acts normally.
Advice much appreciated.

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. Change the fuel filter and see if that works. It could be debris floating around in the fuel tank.

need to locate the linkage and plunger between turbo and diaphram body, spray with WD40 and work by hand until smooth operation.

If you did a full service recently, did the problem start after the service or before ?.

Thanks PapaJohn, will check that out tomorrow.

wastegate temporarily stuck open/partly open will reduce turbo pressure and performance.

friend of mine had the same issue with his toyota people carrier, his was stuck open all the time.....freed it off and power back to normal.

Hi again,
Snowbird; this happened after service.

Pappajohn: Been under bonnet and excuse my ignorance but I cant locate the actuator ? any guidance would be appreciated. To re cap the engine is a 1997 ducato 14- 2.5 td. Been searching for a workshop manual and not found one yet:Sad:

the turbo unit and its linkages are fitted at the rear of the engine block on that engine if i remember correctly. the best way to access it is from underneath ! very awkward unless you have lifting equipment or a pit ! regards garry
