Not trying to start anything but was reading a blog today and the couple said they were doing a mix of sites, pubs and remote camping.
isn’t ’remote’ a much nicer term for what we really want to do?

I like the terms Wildcamping, or Wilding, even Boondocking, or Freecamping, but if your a Funster then FLT becomes part of your everyday vocabulary, and I am not offended by any of them.(y):giggle:
I am up for any other suggestions also, its becoming a dying art here in The UK,due to numbers and a small minority spoiling it for the rest of us unfortunately.
Remember: Funsters leave no Trace.(y)=FLT

Perhaps 'wild parking' would be the best as camping can encompass tents etc, wild to me just means 'offsite'. As for remote it sounds okay but to me implies that the places that people want to stay in their MH are always out of the way which isn't necessarily the case.

It's only remote if it is remote, seaside promenades don't fall into this category. When I park 'remote' it's usually in the hills or at a deserted beach.

I think 'freeloading' is more apt.
I've not been to a "freeloading" spot that I didn't leave better for picking up rubbish, fag-ends, broken glass or something similar. Like to think of this as my "payment" in kind for staying in some of the beautiful spots we are lucky enough to go to.

Absolutely, but I have never picked up, nor would I, the half filled discarded coke bottles, half full of some lorry drivers pee ☹️😫

It's usually far from "wild" or "remote" when we park up in the edge of a forest for the odd night, it of course depends on peoples understanding of those terms but to me wild and remote mean several hours from help, materials & food etc.

We just "park"

Freedom Camping is what I like and use.

Off grid camping is probably a good one to adopt as 'off grid' sounds good to the younger generations.

'Free' is a misnomer IMO as I find that it is rarely free.

Usually additional fuel costs to find/get to the remote places.
A payment to buy water to fill the fresh water tanks.
Extra fuel used running the engine to charge the Hab battery.
Extra gas burnt to chill the fridge, heat water.
My time litter picking to clean up other people's mess when I arive and before I leave, not wishing to possibly be considered as the culpit.

Whatever you want to call it a local village had 3 campervans overnighting last night. Scotland is still 'Stay at Home', no easing of lockdown here.

if they were there illegally then they should be jailed and the moho's shredded

thats the only way some people will learn, hit them where it hurts

if they weren't illegal then leave them alone, simples

I like remote or off grid.
Freedom camping doesn’t really fit, although I have used the term.

I call it Feral camping.

Feral
In a wild state, especially after escape from captivity or domestication.

Therefore FLT = Feral Living Traveller.
I thought of feral but it has too many 'bad' connotations unfortunately.

You can ‘off-grid’ on licensed camping ground, so that term is rather ambiguous.
‘Off-site’ might be better.

‘Wilding’ suggests an element of danger (possibly from those who take exception to such activity) and I’m sure that most would not wish to engage such excitement.

I think an ‘unauthorised stop-over’ describes the practice well if just for one night, or ‘carefree camping’ when for longer.
