I’m not sure why some companies are having problems, whilst others are carrying on without any issues.

I’m looking at buying from The Netherlands (Nikon Binoculars) as they are £30 cheaper than I can get them from a UK supplier.

The Dutch company have assured me that the £167 price includes ALL taxes and will deliver to the UK for free.

I’ve asked two UK suppliers if they will price match......no is their answer.

The whole situation is just baffling ( I understand the £135 threshold thing (y) ).🤷‍♂️

The UK economy will benefit, my local tyre dealer will fit a new tyre, a used part breaker has already supplied a nearly new wheel, UK company is presently making a custom made tyre cover and my local Merc dealer will supply wheel nuts.
If I could find what I want in the UK I would buy it to day.
The internet wheel carriers are not designed for the latest hinge type.
They may fit but it's just not what I need, is this what it's come to, I have to settle for something I don't want.
We all spend a great deal of money on our vans, we all have different needs and wants and we buy accordingly that's all I'm trying to do.
On the bases we need to support UK industry perhaps we should all change our European made vans and buy British.
It's not a logical argument to say buy British especially when buying specialist parts. I wouldn't think many of these items are sold in the UK to make it worthwhile.
OK fair enough, though I still don't see what the UK Government should "sort out"

I always buy American motorhomes so can't help with "we should all change our European made vans and buy British" ;)

Well since the post relates to charges from EU suppliers, then yes, EU suppliers, particularly Germany and Spain.

Received this morning from Iglhaut Allrad, German 4x4 specialists. Invoice to supply a spare wheel carrier for the rear door of my van.
The carrier is expensive however excellent quality and more importantly in stock and available for shipping.
But here's the kicker, check out the export costs!
Is this how life's going to be in future?
Government really needs to sort out these's problems if economic recovery is going to happen.View attachment 469975
As others have said, for £1,000 you could go to a local engineering company and have them make a custom one off for you. Not sure why the government should help you import stuff as that isn't going to help the economic recovery.

The mind boggles at some of these prices doesn't it?
2 grand just to carry a spare wheel that used to come free with every motor.
You could nearly buy my whole van for that.

My latest van cost £2222.22 and came with the spare wheel already mounted on the back door :giggle:

I think I read somewhere that British customs now require overseas companies exporting to Britain to collect vat and possibly duty as well on their behalf, whereas previously the importer paid duty and vat on clearance into the UK, this would likely put off some people from wanting to export to us and if they will then they are going to charge a lot for doing it. I have in the passed imported a vintage saxophone from America with no issues at all, I just had to pay the customs charges before UPS would release the item.

So why make it out of SS, if your going to powder coat it anyway?

So that anywhere the powder coating wears off you won't get rust bubbling up, powder coating, whist hard wearing can and does get abraded with constant movement like hinges for instance, if the metal underneath is corrosion resistant then it will stay looking better for longer. It could of course be left in a natural stainless finish but that may not suit the colour of the other components on the vehicle, maybe it has black wheels and the OP wants the wheel carrier to match.

About the same as his imported one.

Plus you get a ladder thrown in and it's powder coated rather than the cheapskate German's who just paint theirs. :giggle:
They are all made in the US ,it's powder coated
Why would you want stainless steel powder coated.
many people don't want highly polished stainless steel. Not me I might add I ha¡ve always used SS for anything
So why make it out of SS, if your going to powder coat it anyway?
as others have said for when the powder coating gets chipped ,wears & it still doesn't rust.

I can't see anyone making a one off identical to that taking less than 40 hours .
differnt once they the first one is made & you go on to mass production but a walk in , "make me one of these" in stainless steel would be expensive.

If it were mine I wouldn't powder coat it but I'd make it from stainless. However if the OP wants a colour then powder coat. I'd still use stainless because wherever powder coat is damaged by pivots or fasteners whatever is underneath will corrode unless it's stainless - and once corrosion starts under powder it creeps until the area is a flaky mess.

I wouldn't think many motorhome manufacturers are particularly concerned at present with loss of trade to the UK with long waiting list on their books.
In the case of this particular supplier numbers of carriers sold would be small in number.
Admit nobody wants to see trade between countries fall especially with our closest neighbors however you will find the reduction in trade from the UK to the Euro zone since January is far higher.
At present nobodies a winner, especially me facing far higher costs of purchase.

The real test is what the offical data brings on March 12th.
How anyone can extrapolate any meaningful data during a global pandemic is beyond me.
My personal experience is that whenever I've tried to purchase goods from Europe since January it's been nothing but hassle, wasted time and cost.
It shouldn't be this difficult, it wasn't this difficult before.
I'm still waiting for the sunny uplands!
Easiest deal for in history, makes me laugh😂
Let's hope it does improve all our lives, the dream sold by politicians to the British public needs to deliver.
It would be nice if it could manage to deliver me a new tyre and wheel carrier as well.
All the best and stay well.
