Thanks to @Puddleduck we successfully cooked baked spuds in the slow cooker using the power of the leisure batteries yesterday. They were cooked by 5pm and the batteries were completely replenished, although the slow cooker, being only 163w on high, hardly made a dent in the stored power, and both batteries were completely recovered by the time the sun went down.

They were crispy but having to turn them down to low, as we weren't ready to eat meant they went soft as more moisture built up in the slow cooker on the low setting.

On bright sunny days I will be definitely cooking more in the slow pot from now on, especially when wild camping, which we are now, when it's not appropriate to set up and cook outside. It doesn't heat the van up and means a meal ready when you come back from a long walk or cycle ride, or a lazy day on the beach! Or when it's very hot and you want a cold meal, cook the joint in the morning and just carve and serve later in the day.

I have to add that yesterday was a very bright sunny day though. Will try again on an overcast day and see how we get on.

So there you go @chaser that's what you can do with all your spare power!

On and off for many years.
Yes, I love my slow cooker. We're away for 3 weeks soon and it will be coming with me - as will the liners - and I'll be working on recipes for baking in there!

Would need a lot of take away for the length of time we are away! Also would end up with a salt and sugar overload!

We fancy the idea of a meal cooking whilst we drive along. (y)

Eazee peezee! Take one tin of Meat & Veg Compo ration, Pierce top once, wedge tin on exhaust manifold, Drive!

Hot meal ready when you arrive at destination.:hi5:

This also works with Baked Beans, Irish stew and tinned Bacon.

Leaves a bit of a mess if Tinned Chocolate and Spangles, although still edible once you've separated the wrappings from the goo :hi5:

Only with an inverter......it runs on 230v mains voltage only.
I realise it would need an inverter but the socket itself only provides 180w max and the one I was referring to needs 250w ... I didnt' think it would therefore work .. or am I getting muddle up with all the mud in my brain from Peterbog?
