Judy took me out for a ride last Sunday...

Only a short run to Portland so I could have a look at all the places I worked from when employed by the Royal Navy..

One of the places was the top secret radar station..

Which is now Fancy`s Farm.. "WITH CAMPING".... It` a free to enter (Donations if you like.)

On the official notice board the camping is only £15 per night... (y)

The camping is in secure (Loads) of fenced enclaves that can accommodate about 16 - 18 in each field..

Even though it is on top of Portland it is well sheltered and loads of ex military places to walk to and explore, brilliant site for walkers.. and the views away from the site are stunning..(y)

Even for a bank holiday it was NOT crowded... Below is a link to Fancy`s petting farm... brilliant for young and old..

Cannot find any information on the camp site only the notice on the entrance..

Here is the link = http://www.fancysfarm.co.uk/

And = https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attra...y_s_Farm-Isle_of_Portland_Dorset_England.html

If you want any more information ask me.. Or give them a bell . 📞 :drinks:

There was a recent post on here asking about you, you have been missed - nice to hear from you.

They are on Facebook and mentioned the £15 campsite on the 4th of June 2022.

i remember with great fondness when you hired a mini bus and took us around portland when we were at one of your dorset meets..
it was my birthday as i remember, and i was allowed to sit up front with you, and for your kindness i treated us all on our table to crab sarnies in that cafe up the top there somewhere..
it rained in amongst the sunshine as i recall..
happy days, lovely memories, but i miss those days..
hope you're doing okay m'dear, and judy and daisy dog too..

Is this the place, old-mo …….https://www.portlandhistory.co.uk/raf-portland-rotor-radar-station.html ?

Is this the site:

No.......... That`s the one right out on the end of the island, been running a few years..

Lovely when it`s dry and sunny, but a bit prone to any winds..

The one at the Petting farm is run by the same people.. (I think) and is a lot more sheltered, lots of old quarries near by and various battlements and enclaves and the back of the Vern Citadel.. (y)

Have to go onto this web site to get to it.....

So much military history on Portland.. Just look at the map and list`s on that web site..

Brilliant site if you are into oldery....

That sounds like one to definitely put on my list. Thanks for posting old-mo. Good to see your name appear!

I used to do a lot of scuba diving out of Portland in the late 80's. It was never a salubrious place but when I was passing the other year I took a trip down memory lane- it is now really run down. I would have thought that the Olympic sailing centre may have pumped some money into the local economy, but sadly it is not a place I would want to spend any time at anymore

Great to hear from you again Sir Mo.Trust you are as well as can be hoped for and enjoying life. We really do miss you and your posts.

Not too much interest in the site you mentioned but delighted to see that you are back posting. (And even more relieved that you weren’t posting “jokes”).😉

Get the ancient book out and see if you can find ones we haven’t heard.👍

I am in Weymouth next week at the Haven site from Tuesday for a week, I'm not young anymore but if you need any help with anything, give me a PM and we'll sort it.

We’re here Maurice! £20 per night (not sure if that’s because we told the lady we had a tow car 🙄.

All set up in the corner.

I’ll report back on our ‘experience’!

We’re here until Friday Mo, and we’d love to pop round for a coffee.

It’s blowing a hooly up here now, thank God for the firestick and unlimited internet - the satellite dish is staying well and truly down!

You will always be ‘Gorgeous Old Sir Mo’ to me - the first Funster we ever met, and we’re still here 10 years later!

Looking forward to catching up with you both, and the even more gorgeous Daisy!

What a superb day.... Met up at the campsite with cliffanger (Cliff and Geraldine.)..

Sat in their pop-up drinking tea and eating all their biscuits....

Lovely to catch up with a couple of my favourite Funsters after about 4 years... :hugs:

Could not stay for more than a couple of hours unfortunately.. :blush:They know why..

Regarding the site..... Hopefully they cliffanger will give a report... but personally I would NOT recommend it to anyone...
The Farm (Petting farm) is free to enter, BUT it is only open weekends and school holidays.
When we left there were a couple of dozen people walking by, I am sure they could have tapped into them and got a few donations which they ask for if you visit and also taken a few quid in the cafe to help feed the animals..

Other than my little moan lovely to catch up with them,,, quick ride home and a few hour kip under my oxygen machine...:frowny:

Thank You ..
Cliff & Geraldine..
Safe onward journey..
Maurice, Judy and Crazy fat Daisy..
XXXXXXX
:hugs:

It was really lovely to see you both (and the gorgeous Daisy) today Mo. You can come and eat our biscuits any time.

We were sorry not to come to yours for the Chinese as Judy suggested, but next time we’ll definitely come and visit you - I want to see that log cabin.

We’ve had a very windy stay at this site. I think it’s our bad luck with the wind in the wrong direction, but it is quite exposed.

We were charged £15 per night, with the car being charged an extra £5 per night - I think that’s the first time we’ve been charged extra for the car. However it was definitely required - we’d have been stuffed without it!

There are some lovely walks around the site, and we’ve been to some of our favourite places in the car. Lyme Regis today, and Weymouth yesterday.

We finished off in our favourite pub overlooking the harbour and our Rob’s spiritual home …

He reckons he had his all time favourite battered Twix there … 🙄

The sun has definitely been out today ..

We drove round to Portland Bill, and it seems the Pulpit Inn, by the lighthouse welcomes motorhomes - we saw one in the car park on ramps and with rear steadies down, so it might be worth a phone call if you fancy an overnight pub stop.

Stay well Mo and Judy, it really was lovely to see you both, and we will give you a call the next time we’re down this way. xxx
